The Nigerian Senate demonstrated a somber and respectful gesture by adjourning Tuesday's plenary session to honor the late Hon. Isa Dogonyaro, a member of the House of Representatives who passed away on Friday after a brief illness.

During the session, the Senate held a minute of silence in memory of Hon. Dogonyaro, who represented the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives. At just 46 years of age, his untimely demise has left a void in the legislative community.

The decision to suspend plenary was made in accordance with the longstanding tradition of the National Assembly, following a motion moved by Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Lola Ashiru, and seconded by Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro. The unanimous support from Senators reflected the collective mourning and respect for the departed lawmaker.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while putting the motion to a voice vote, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased lawmaker as well as the government and people of Jigawa State. The Senate's acknowledgment of Hon. Dogonyaro's contributions and the expression of sympathy highlight the sense of unity and camaraderie within the legislative body.

After observing a minute of silence in honor of the late lawmaker, the Senate adjourned plenary until Wednesday, May 15, 2024, allowing time for reflection and remembrance of Hon. Dogonyaro's legacy and service to the nation.
