Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail of N300 million by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. He pleaded not guilty to charges of printing new naira notes without following due process, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Emefiele, the sole defendant, must provide two sureties with titled property in Maitama and surrender his travel documents. The bail conditions mirror those set by another judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, in a separate case. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 28.
