Difference Between The Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway And The Second Niger Bridge by FreedomfromtheT: 4:35pm On May 19
Somebody compared the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway with the second Niger Bridge.
He claimed that Peter Obi didn't criticize the second Niger Bridge so why should he criticize the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway?
It seems that some people are trying to cause a deep divide and rule between the people of the Southeast and their Southsouth brothers through this Lagos Calabar Coastal highway project.
Obviously, some people are trying to make it look like the Igbos are not happy about the coastal highway because it does not benefit them.
Really?
The first Niger Bridge had been a very busy passage across the Niger river for decades.
A lot of vehicles used to pass to and fro the busy bridge on a daily basis.
Due to the bad shape of the first Niger Bridge and the fear that it might collapse leading to astronomical loss of humans and property, there was an idea for the construction of a second Niger Bridge which started during the electioneering campaign of late former president Shehu Shagari in 1978/1979, continued to the regime of Ibrahim Babangida, down to that of president Olusegun Obasanjo.
For more than 30 years, this huge national project affecting Nigerians lives and economy had been subject to political talks until president Jonathan signed the contract which his predecessor former president Muhammadu Buhari perfected and completed.
Can that be said about the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway?
Do the people of the coastal areas need the high way more than deep seaports?
What about the existing roads in the Southsouth line the East West roads and other roads in need of upgrade?
What are the economic benefits of this highway compared to the cost?
Do we really need an alternative high way for the Southsouth people that much?
Is the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway not a white elephant project meant to play to the galary and get Southsouth votes?
The question is: will president Bola Tinubu actually complete this project or will he just use it as a ploy to get Southsouth votes and abandon it if reelected and blame the minister of works, David Umahi an Igboman as someone predicted?

Reasonable Nigerians including Southsouth people should not be happy at the colossal waste of money at a time like this on what is seen aa a white elephant project when there are better things the Southsouth need that are relatively less costly.

Nobody is shutting anything down.
Are they building or rehabilitating?
If true, it is federal government money.
But there are priorities beneficial to the people and there are white elephant projects.
Have you now known the difference between the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway and the urgent need to have a 2nd Niger Bridge?

Well definitely not from any resources from Eastern Nigeria?

The FG has used their own quota to build bridge for them.

A fraudulent coastal highway linking Bourdillon with Lebanon

South South can feed you ungrateful parasites in South East but the only project to directly benefit the SS is a waste according to you Igbos?

No problem.

You are not crying about PH to Enugu but you are crying about the Coastal Road that benefits the SS

Carry anything related to Peter Obi in the SS in 2027 and see what happens to you.

You cannot fool Southsouth people.
They know what most Yorubas did to president Goodluck Jonathan in 2014/2015!!!

Let me ask you this: did president Tinubu consult the Southsouth leaders about what is their priority before embarking on the Lagos Calabar Coastal highway project or it is forced on them and they must reciprocate with 2027 votes?

The governors have no choice than to approve it even if it is not their priority. At least it is better than nothing.
Not only have they approved it, they want it completed in record time.
The question is: will president Tinubu complete it or is just using it to collect 2027 votes?
If he gets reelected and abandons it, what would the Southsouth leaders do to him?

I don't know about others.
I am concerned about the motive of the president.
The Southsouth need deep seaports.
The Southsouth already have uncompleted roads.
Why the expensive Lagos Calabar Coastal highway?
The more pertinent question is: does president Tinubu even intend to complete the project or just to play to the gallery and garner Southsouth votes in 2027?
