Organised Labour has on Tuesday rejected the N54,000 proposed by the Federal government as new minimum wage.

FG had in a meeting with Labour proposed N54,000 as against its earlier N48,000 offer. One of the leaders of the Organised Labour who attended the meeting revealed this to Vanguard in a telephone conversation.

Recall that Organised Labour comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, walked out on the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage following the proposed N48,000 as minimum wage by the Federal Government.

Last week Organised Labour told FG to perish any thought of offering N100,000 as the new minimum wage.

It also asked the government to be serious with negotiations on the issue of workers’ wages, insisting that it used the lowest minimum in arriving at N615,000 as the new minimum wage.

Pay them at least the price of a bag of Rice. They will borrow ingredients and gas to eat the Rice everyday. We are not yet talking about their house rents and how they can send their children to school.

Shameless government.

The N54,000 the federal government is proposing is for what, feeding or transportation?
The federal government should give us a breakdown of how they arrived at that.

As much as I believe that ₦54K is still poor, the truth is that many people don't understand what a minimum wage is. They think it means that that is what all government workers earn, whereas it's the wage for the worker at the lowest level, probably the cleaners in govt offices.

They are giving less than 50k yet they are putting 91b on the table for hajj, it's just so glaring these people know what to do to really make this better but they won't, they'll rather just patch as usual so they can feed their pockets.

Going forward, I think it will be better to tie MW with Inflation. That way government will feel more committed in keeping inflation reasonably low.

How does PMB borrow over 30 Trillion through WAYS & MEANS from the CBN. Now, Tinubu has served Nigerians a double dose of currency devaluation and subsidy removal. Does anyone have any idea of the impact of these policies on Inflation? And yet the government thinks they can offer workers pittance. Why should workers be the victims of bad government policies?

Bro Anambra is not paying the old minimum wage of 30K. Where does it want to get money to pay price of bag of rice ? This is the legacy of Peter obi Nigeria rejected.

Same Anambra pays the highest wages on the SE, how will it cope before we even talk about other ipob states.

You are just irredeemable.

Peter Obi has since left office when the Buhari government increased the minimum wage to N30,000. If other successive governments after his tenure refused to pay, why do you blame Peter Obi?

This government doesn't look like a serious one. How can you propose such after removal of subsidy. Inflation is already biting hard and the average Nigerian is not smiling. How can you propose such?

What can #54,000 buy, how can it be less than the price of a bag of rice in Nigeria? When it comes to what people will benefit from they will hold meetings upon meetings . Just this evening you guys increase interest rate without any consideration no noise.

N54k is small.

N70-N80k should be okay

Government should first approve that amount, then fish out the ghost workers across the states, that alone would save reasonable money to increase the amount within short period of time
