Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has commended President Bola Tinubu for hard policies intended to reposition Nigeria for growth.

Fintiri told newsmen in Yola that as unpopular as fuel subsidy removal initiated by the Tinubu government has been, the policy is necessary to make Nigerians sit up and be productive.

The governor, in a casual conversation with members of the state chapter of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who visited him at the Government House in Dougire, said fuel subsidy and other forms of subsidy would not help real progress.

“Let’s just pray that these bold policies of the federal government yield desired effects because we need them,” he said, adding that such policies are the sorts of change that Nigeria needs.

“We can’t continue to live on subsidy. We’ve got to face real-life situations and be productive. It’s productivity that will help us,” he stressed.

Fintiri, recalling the criticism he faces as the Adamawa State governor, particularly the recent case of pulling down the famous Jimeta Shopping Complex to give room for a remodelled bigger version, said attempts at change are always resisted and challenged.

He advised Nigerians to believe in leaders as meaning the best for them and giving the necessary support for the envisaged change to be actualized.
