Crisis looms in Osun over hijab | Print | E-mail Written by Adewale Ajayi, Osogbo Thursday, 24 November 2011 Share There seems to be a pending crisis over the resolve of the Muslim community in Osun State to enforce the use of hijab in public schools. The Muslims are insisting that it is their right to use the hijab, because it is for the edification of Muslim girls, but the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has vowed to resist the move. Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the president-general of Osun State Muslim Community, Sheikh Salaudeen Olayiwola, said that section 38 of the 1999 Constitution provided for freedom of religion, just as he insisted that it was the right of Muslim ladies to use hijab. “Indeed, the hijab, niqab or burqa being part and parcel of Islamic mode of dressing and by whatever standard a dignified and vividly decent one, cannot be taken away by any other law other than the constitution,”he noted. Sheikh Olayiwola said that they were not fighting the Christian community because they had a meeting point, the Nigeria Inter Religion Committee (NIREC), where issues that affect the two bodies are discussed. Reacting to the plan to enforce the use of hijab in public schools in a telephone chat, the state chairman of CAN, Superior Evangelist Abraham Aladeseye, said the Muslims were only looking for an avenue to foment trouble adding that they would not be allowed to carry out their intention. He said their action contravened government’s directive , which banned the use of hijab in non Muslim schools. |

superstar1: The Nigerian media and turning of issues to show there bias nature. The issue of the hijab is not enforcing the hijab as if mandatory on all students but you will be surprise to know that is the other way round in Osun.In schools there in Osun,Muslim girls are fustrated over hijab. That girls can not wear them to school. While in some cases students are asked to turn back and go home over the use of the hijab. In one instance it happened again and the Muslim community became more agitated and asked why should such be permitted even where they make the bulk of the population. So the Muslim community resolved to insist they had a right to use the hijab in the educational institutes of the state. They are asking for there right to wear the Hijab in schools and not be victimize over wearing it.Already the media has gone singing a different tone as if they want to enforce it on all people regardless of faith.Even the Muslims is not a must under there request but simply where a lady or girl chooses to wear it, she should be allowed to and not made to suffer for it. |

If you cannot abide by school uniform rules, then keep away from school. Simples. They can wear their hijab's at home just as Cherubim and Seraphim folk wear their gowns and discard their shoes at home. |

How does my wearing of hijab bothers you or troubling your mind, are we sharing the same head? It's a personal decision, no body is forcing it on your head. Will the hijab distract or stop those that are not wearing it from comprehending what the teacher is teaching? It is obvious that the christains will never like the muslims until the muslims abandon there way of life and follow there foot step. |

Olowojègúrè:Dude, I am a MUSLIM. I'm talking from a rational perspective. muslims start wearing hijabs and then followed by white garment cherubim and seraphim, then ONDE wearers. Islamic schools are numerous so is missionary schools.inorder to avoid discrimination, things like this should be avoided. Unless ofcourse, you want uniform dress codes to be abolished. |

Copy copy, black man has no independent mind to do anything without looking to European as a model. Europe is banning hijab and now Nigerians think they must do that also. A family has the right to serve as the moral compass for their children. If a family decides hijab for their daughter, no one has the right to say otherwise. Would you ask nuns to take off their head scarf? CAN has no moral leadership to tell Muslims in West what to wear or not. Can you imagine if Northerners say every woman in North must wear hijab or leave? Is that acceptable? |

Islam and violence. The girl in question has been attending that school before today. Why do they just love violence. Let them not bring that "stuff" down south. |

Re: Crisis Looms In Osuni State Over Hijab by Nobody: 2:12pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
Jihad by stealth. It is a know fact that Muslims like to impose their religion and culture on any society in which they live. Even here in the UK, we now have in some areas Sharia courts, we also have Muslims mocking dead British soldiers even though a very many of them are feeding off the system. |
Re: Crisis Looms In Osuni State Over Hijab by T8ksy(m): 2:28pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
Obiagu1: Dream on! No yoruba man whether xtian, muslim or animalist will dare fight alongside the ibos. We don't trust you guys, have never done and with the benfit of hindsight will never do. Before long, you will be telling us that you have come to liberate us from the fulani oligarchy and henceforth your soldiers will be stationed in yorubaland until you believe we are good and ready to take care of our internal affairs. I doff my hat off to you guys- you are smart however wem |
