THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ALLEGED MASS RESIGNATION IN THE DSS AND OTHER MATTERS

The report, which was credited to an online and self-acclaimed publisher, Jackson Ude, will nudge any serious minded individual to see the need to dig for the facts. The figure quoted in the report, stating that over 390 personnel of the Secret Police had indicated interest to resign from the Organization, was something that must elicit worry. This is because of the position occupied by the DSS in the security architecture of the country.

The quest for the facts in the issues raised made me interview a privileged member of the DSS. He affirmed the statement that some personnel of their organization have actually resigned but not up to the number indicated in the report. He also debunked poor welfare packages as a reason for the resignation of the affected personnel. He stated that some of them resigned to pursue further studies or meet their spouses abroad, adding that there are others with pending disciplinary actions who resigned to evade possible dismissal as sanction. Those who resigned on frivolous grounds are said to be begging for reinstatement.

On welfare, it was gathered that Mr Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the current Director General of the DSS, is rated high as one of the most sensitive helmsman ever appointed to head the organization. Aside implementing a bogus hazard allowance left pending before assuming office, Bichi was said to have introduced some rare welfare packages which members of staff never imagined. These include the introduction of paternity leave for men whose wives have just put to bed so that they can assist their nursing wives.

The source also stated that many personnel of the Secret Agency with serious health challenges beyond their financial capacity are treated by the Management. Some with more critical conditions are flown abroad for adequate treatment.

Among other issues found to be baseless in the report was the allegation that the DG SSS was leading dangerous operations in the North that had led to the killing of "numerous DSS officers." According to the insider, families of the fictitious slain officers would have raised the alarm if the allegation was true.

The writer also alleged non-implementation of a 40% allowance increase for security and intelligence personnel by the DG SSS. What was gathered was that there was no such fund. This begs for answers to some pertinent questions: What fund was referred to? Who authorized or approved it? What channel was it made to pass through and where was the fund deposited?

It was further related that there are some politicians who had failed many times trying to make the DG SSS do their bidding. Such politicians now use unscrupulous personnel within the DSS to malign the person of the DG. The outcome is the publication of unfounded stories about the helsman of the Secret Police.

On a final note, I was made to know that the contents of the rather misleading report show insider inputs, with fingers pointing at ambitious high ranking officers who covet the seat of the DG. The source also disclosed that the Management of the Secret Police is already investigating the report so as to make personnel involved face the consequences of their actions.
