Besides, this sounds more like the hand of Wike and the voice of Fagbemi.
SC already ruled against LG autonomy during Fayemi's tenure.
SC already ruled against withholding LG funds under whatever guise during the time of OBJ
SC already ruled against sacking LG chairs BEFORE their tenure expired
SC already ruled against caretaker committee at LG level
This case is meaningless. What makes it worse is it unwittingly drags the 36 state govs into Wike's fight with Fubara
Wike is beginning to look desperate

But Tinubu is now asking the court to allow him withhold LG funds. Same thing OBJ did and he wailed against then....

Yeah. Section 162(5&6)

Wike is beginning to look desperate

First he orchestrated PDP to deny that the lawmakers defected

Now he's asking SC to declare JAAC illegal and give FG right to withhold LG funds. How does that improve autonomy of LGs?

At the best, the secretaries of the LGs can hold forth pending when elections are held. But to ask the SC to give LG chairs extra day in office before statutory 3yrs is total bollocks

Well said!๐Ÿ˜‚

If you are not mentally unstable, you will know that Tinubu has been fighting for TRUE federalism and independence of LGA since he was Lagos governor.

Can Sim Fubara dissolve LGA in Rivers if Tinubu wants them to remain at all cost? If Tinubu withdrawal the federal security agents that are protecting Sim Fubara, won't LGA Chairmen beat Fubara to death and use his head to play football and his organs for rituals? Sim Fubara is still there on seat because he is not fighting Tinubu and he has been respecting Tinubu in all his speeches, if not, it's just a phone call to Police I.G. to withdraw Fubara's security, that is the end of his 4 years tenure

You are the one that is beginning to look desperate here. Trying so hard to drag Wike into this, in your desperate attempt to discredit such a laudable move by the FG. You said SC already ruled against Caretaker Committee, withholding LG funds etc. But all those things are still being done by the Governors. The current FG is trying to correct those anomalies and ensure that development gets to the grassroots as envisaged by the drafters of our constitution. Cure yourself of your obsession with Wike.

Lolz

Joint accounnt is a constitutional matter

They will need to amend that section of the constitution
The Supreme Court is the Constitutional Court, whatever it says becomes the Law.

I'm very proud of the FG for taking this step.

Nigerian governors are among the major problems of Nigeria. The progress of a nation starts from the grassroot. When the foundation, which is the local government has been destroyed by the useless governors, you can't build and that is where we are.

The Federal Government should withhold the allocations of any state where the governor is tampering with the autonomy of the local governments. Also, in states where caretakers are being used to run the local governments as opposed to elected chairmen as stipulated by the constitution, INEC should not also conduct the governorship election of that state and the President shall appoint a caretaker governor to ensure the conduct of the LGAs elections before INEC conducts a governorship election in that state.

WRONG. LGAS ARE THE GRASSROOTS OF TRADITIONAL RULERS AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATES .
LGAS REPORT THEIR BUDGETS AND PLANNING THROUGH TRADITIONAL RULERS TO STATE GOVERNORS

STATE GOVERNORS ARE ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROLLERS AND DIRECTOR GENERALS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE STATES.

Go back to school. That will put an end to this your repeated display of ignorance. A good secondary school education is enough to cure it.

that case had to do with Lagos State's creation of additional LGAs or LCDA's as the State Government called them and if the FG had the right to withhold funding to them or not. This is a different matter which the FG wants the Supreme Court to make a pronouncement on.

Learn to read. Don't just write. What difference does it make if the circumstances are different? The same thing is still being asked which is power to withhold LG funds.
I'm sure the SC will not grant it. It is a crooked attempt to bend our laws.
Most of the points raised have been decided upon by the SC so this case is an academic attempt to turn the SC to a legislative body that it is not
