Tinubu getting local/international praise for harsh economic reforms Nigerians complain about: Presidency
The Tinubu administration has ratcheted up claims that the Nigerian leader is doing well in steering the nation in the right direction. Ahead of the May 29 anniversary of the first year in office of President Bola Tinubu, the administration has ratcheted up claims that the Nigerian leader is doing well in steering the nation in the right direction.

The Presidency, through Mr Tinubu’s media aide Ajuri Ngelale, said the president had continued to implement measures aimed at reshaping the battered economy since assuming office in May 2023. Mr Ngelale said this on Tuesday in Abuja.

The presidential spokesman said, “Nigerians understand that this president, in his first days in office, dealt with the reform of the fuel subsidy regime, dealt with the reform of the financial markets, particularly with respect to the unification of the foreign exchange rates.

“He put an end to the type of incessant and really ravaging, round tripping we were seeing within the sphere of the Central bank of Nigeria. But then again, of course, sometimes when you stop the bleeding, it’s not seen as an achievement.

“But there’s a reason many others refused to do what this president has now done. This is why the president has been roundly commended, not just locally but internationally for the reforms he has put in place.”

Mr Ngelale explained that Mr Tinubu was not unaware of the impact of the reforms on Nigerians and has embarked on a broad scope of economic intervention to alleviate the citizens’ plight.

He said one such measure was the interventions and capitalisation of medium, small, and micro enterprises (MSME), including the N200 billion for all segments of the business population operating in the country.

Mr Ngelale said Mr Tinubu did not also leave out the development of infrastructure across the country in various sectors. He said these investments aimed to have a ripple effect among people who operate along the value chain segments of such infrastructures.

Mr Ngelale explained that the past one year has also seen significant interventions in the area of accelerating power performance especially with the Siemens Energy agreement and others in the provision of off grid power.

He said that Siemens was into the end to end modernisation of the nation’s power transmission grid to ensure enhanced quality and quantity of power supply to corporate and individual consumers.

Mr Ngelale added that the president has dedicated one billion dollars to off-grid power through capital formation and mobilisation from multilateral institutions dealing with the supply of off-grid solar home systems.

He said this would be allocated to primary health facilities, rural communities, and rural farms to reduce about 50 per cent of post-harvest loss in the country because the produce could not reach the markets.

The country’s debt burden is overwhelming with much of the IGR used to serviced debts due to the satanic IMF policies. Meanwhile, Nigeria's inflation rate is now at 33.69% as at April 2024 - the highest in 28years since Mar 1996. Since the turn of the new year, the naira, which was floated almost a year ago has witnessed a dramatic depreciation, leaving a devastating mark on organised businesses across the board.

The prices of staple foods like beans and maize have increased by 300 to 400 per cent over the past year following the removal of the fuel subsidy and the depreciation of the naira. Inflation is outpacing the ability of families to cope, making essential food items unaffordable.

These among many neck constricting measures are the disastrous governance they are happy alleging that the government is getting local and international accolades for? Who really is the presidency? Are they feeling the pain, anguish, despair, and frustration of the downtrodden masses as they live in their fool's paradise?

This is the 9 years of APC unfortunate gracing of our national life. Nigeria was among the 5 fastest growing economy in the world in 2015. Now they have ran it aground with unbridled greed, bigotry, nepotism, and ilegalization of institutional corruption from one catastrophic APC government to another. Yet they are not ashame or remorseful nor don’t want to be accountable for the mess they have entangled this nation into.

They are always in a haste to seek validation to justify the senseless and wicked policies they are imposing to make life difficult for their citizens( endless taxation, removal of educational/electricity subsidies, increase in VAT etc ) but never ready to cut cost of governance and their opulent lifestyles.

These reforms did dealt with Nigerians and Nigeria turning the entire country into the world largest IDP camp. Hunger and starvation have now become the order of the day

Tinubu is making necessary changes that all past leaders were afraid to make.
Like the man or not, he dares to make hard decisions that should have been made decades ago.
Yeah, it will be tough, but these are decisions that should have been made by previous govt.
The past admins didn't have the courage to make these hard decisions because they were more focused on winning elections.

In the long run, Nigeria is poised for positive growth. Thank God for Tinubu. he will eventually end up as the best president that Nigeria has ever had.

How do men love evil tyrants this much.... especially the Agbado paupers who aren't gaining anything aside suffering from this man, then we have goat like this Ngelale at least he's bleating lyrically for his paycheck and contracts....I ask again why do poor Agbado criers support evil tyrant to their own detriment and survival. This is an evil under the sun, a mystery for the wise

Receiving praises for what actually?

Tinubu took inflation rate from 22% to over 33% in just 1 year. That's over 10% in just one year.

Going by the precedent he has set, by the end of his 4 years, inflation will be at over 60% and if he succeeds in doing a full 8yrs tenure then we are looking at over 100% inflation rate! TOO BAD!

Guys, its gonna be rugged. As that lady said, keep your dollar close to you!

For the fact that they haven't been creative with generating dollars/fx to the economy and have only relied on borrowing should tell you, its gonna be rough. Actually very rough!

Even the gods are angry with Tinubu cos their sacrifice have reduced.

The price of alligator pepper, head of cobra, skin of whatever, adin, black Soap, etc have skyrocketed. One Vulture/owl cost more than a bag of rice.

I wonder how Tinubu end will be like.

This is a common practice with APC, giving self-appraisal with nothing to show for.

But we've been overfed with lies since in the days of Lia Mo'hd.
