I did logic gates in CS/SE over a decade ago but this animated YouTube video makes it very clear on how we got from transistors to logic gates.

BTW.. what languages are you proficient in?

At uni we used Java as our main language but covered C and C++ to know how they differ from Java. Before stating uni I had already done some programming with C# so after uni I just continued my programming career using C# and the .Net Framework.
