President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has described the Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Odumegwu Emeka Ojukwu as a dogged fighter who fought till the end to liberate the oppressed.

Senator Mark in a condolence message to the government, people of Anambra State and the bereaved family, remarked that Ojukwu remains one of the greatest Nigerians that ever lived.

He noted that Ojukwu was a great fighter who stood for justice, equality before the law, fairness and freedom to all citizens.

Senator Mark added that “No matter how much you love or hate him, Ojukwu was a man who loved his people and was ever prepared to lay down his life for them to have a better living.

“No matter the angle he is viewed, Ojukwu will be remembered as a man who stood up to be counted when it mattered most. He was a man who hated oppression and he did his best to liberate the downtrodden.”

The President of the Senate added, “Ojukwu deserved a prominent chapter in the history of Nigeria and no one can deny the fact the he played his role creditably according to the dictates of the time.”

He stressed that Ojukwu on return from exile after the ill-fated 30 months old fratricidal Nigeria/Biafra civil strife organised his people on the need to fully reintegrate into the Nigerian nation state.

“He remains a legend. He was one of the very early fine military officers the nation had. He contributed to the evolution of modern day Nigeria. The nation has lost one of her best. He fought till the end. We shall surely miss him,” Mark stated. Senator Mark urged the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that Ojukwu left positive imprint on the sand of time.
