LEBANESE AND INDIAN COMMUNITIES IN NIGERIA UNDER ATTACK BY NEWSPAPERS.

The large Indian and Lebanese communities in Nigeria have been under attack by the leading Nigerian independent newspaper, accusing them of economic sabotage. The Guardian editorial followed another one last week in the National Concord.

The Indian and Lebanese communities have been accused of bribing bank officials to illegally move foreign currency out of Nigeria, and hoarding goods. The economic success of the Lebanese and Indian communities has been the subject of some jealousy.Between the two communities, they own numerous factories and small businesses.

The new military government which seized power on December 31, 1983 has promised to fight corruption and bring down food prices.
Indians and Lebanese are alleged to be some of the power behind corrupt middlemen. Long jail terms for economic sabotage are being mentioned in the national press.

GENERAL BUHARI VISITS YOLA AFTER QUENCHING RELIGIOUS RIOTING THAT LEFT DOZENS DEAD.
Nigeria's military ruler, Major-General Mohamed Buhari, visited the northeastern Nigerian city of Yola - in Gongola state - February 29 to assess the extent of damage caused by violent communal rioting two days earlier.

The known death toll from the religious disturbances is nearly 140, with at least another 60 persons injured, some critically. Gongola's acting state governor, Colonel Cyril Iweze, blamed the turmoil on fanatical followers of Moslem fundamentalist Muhammadu Marwa Maitatsine's religious sect. Marwa himself was killed in vicious rioting three years ago, when an estimated 4,000 people died.

In disturbances on February 27, the army was eventually called in to quell resistance from thousands of religious fanatics, at least 715 of whom were arrested by security forces.

General Buhari visited the Yola Specialist Hospital during his one-day tour of the gutted city, and also met with the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Mustapha Aliyu, to discuss the situation.

Buharinomics - General Buhari’s economic program marshaled out to salvage the nation in 1984

http://www.elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5720:is-general-buhari-the-problem-with-nigeria&catid=36:pointblank&Itemid=83

Buharinomics was General Buhari’s economic program marshaled out to salvage the nation in 1984. He summarized the objective of his economic policy (as articulated in the 1984 budget) as follows: "To arrest the decline in the economy, to put the economy on a proper course of recovery and solvency, and to chart a future course for economic stability and prosperity" (West Africa, May 14, 1984). He had previously done similarly, in March while receiving the visiting Sudanese President, Gaafar Nimeiri. Upon his inquiring of what the new military government had in mind for the nation it then ruled, Buhari said to him: "The priority [of his administration] is for economic recovery, providing employment opportunities, improving people's living conditions, consolidating internal security and ensuring foreign respect" (Africa Now, March 1984). In a nutshell, Buharinomics set out to arrest the decline in the economy and refocus it towards recovery.

Buharinomics was to wean the nation off consumerism and profligacy, while channeling it towards frugality and productivity. To accomplish this, the government was to cut down on its expenditure, engage in more efficient restricting and controlling of foreign exchange outflow, undertake the revival of the country's productive capacity (concentration was on agriculture), and broaden government's revenue base.

The first test of Buharinomics was implemented to revive the comatose banking industry and arrest local currency hoarding. In April 1984, the government ordered a change in the color of the Naira. This action was dubbed the “real coup” by unscrupulous business men and politicians who had almost eliminated the need for commercial banking in Nigeria by keeping their moneys under their mattresses or by trafficking them into neighboring West African countries.

This currency change, which forced all holders of the naira notes into exchanging them for the new naira notes at commercial banks, infused billions that had remained unaccounted for into the banking industry and eliminated counterfeited currencies, which had inflicted inflationary and other nefarious effects on the economy. This measure had an immediate revitalizing effect in the banking industry and was an unqualified success. Banks that were close to collapsing became vibrant again, to the extent that some of them began to hire hitherto unemployed Nigerians.

GenBuhari: ^^ because I am tired of arguing with people determined with spreading falsehoods and confusion.

You have started posting all these your propaganda nonsense again. We were alive and well during Buhari;s regime and the guy was the most stup1d president we ever had then. Alway hiding behind Idiagbon. He arrested and jailed Prof Ambrose Alli and that innoccent man rotted in jail for over a year. He was Nigeria's first brain surgeon. He later died after being released. He never ate 1 kobo of Bendel State money and the records are there to prove it. He built the now thriving Ambrose Alli university, formerly Edo State university. Buhari only arrested him because he was trying to turn Nigeria into a sharia state. That is why he was the first to support Yerima when Yerima started his infamous sharia politics in 2002 after it emerged he was embezzling state funds.

It is very instructive that Buhari always supports corrupt people. He shamelessly said Abacha was never corrupt. He quickly backed Yerima. Yet you post Buhari's publications and try to misinform that he is clean. I can go online and post the same kind of articles for OBJ and IBB and use that to defend them too. Isnt it funny that all the articles you posted were all written during Buhari's presidency? So you think some of us are stup1d enough to expect that Buhari would have allowed fraudulent articles to be posted during his time in government?

You still havent told us what the man did with over 600 billion PTF money. Till date, there are no tangible projects on the ground to account for such stupendous sums of money. He and his goons just shared the money and he now tries to keep a low profile and pretend that he is a saint. He aint fooling some of us. Where are the PTF projects? Just imagine the value of that money between 1995 and 1999.

The guy is perpetually unelectable. You can shout yourself hoax if you like

Nigeria: 2003: Buhari Urges Muslims to Vote Muslims

Gusau — As the year 2003 elections draw closer, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has called on Muslims across the country to vote only for the presidential candidate that would defend and uphold the tenets of Islam.

Buhari who made the call yesterday at the closing ceremony of the 16th National Qur'anic Recitation competition held in Gusau, Zamfara State told Muslims that they have every reason to thank Allah for restoring the Islamic Sharia under the present dispensation, which he said was destroyed by British colonialists during their crusade in 1903 against the Sokoto caliphate.

Nothing can change nigerians,but theemselves.

There have to be a reversal systematic stupidity. You can force a camel to the stream, but you can't force a carmel to drink.

There is need for self-conscious among nigerians and that is the only saviour.

Be wise like an ant.

if the aim of this post is to relaunch general buhari to relevance then it has obviously failed cos we are not fools in this country, someone who naturally should be languishing in jail for inciting and instigating violence that has shed so much blood on the land, can't be thrown up as a potential presidential material,so to me no need commenting over a dead issue.Buhari can never be elected president in Nigeria,we are not fools.

Let's not forget president jonathan is only in his first term in office, and also performing creditably well so to me unless he decides not to contest the 2015 election, there's no need discussing successors cos as we all know, there's no need changing a winning team.

No need commenting on this topic because the Buhari story is the one long lost.. Buhari remains perpetually unelectable and can never be the president of Nigeria.. Thanks to hell Rufai

bilms: Why must Buhari be the president for Nigeria to be good? i post this to follow up my previous post and conviction about my position. I posted a topic some weeks ago about how disappointed i was that Buhari under CPC declared he would not be going to court but did after loosing the election and i was attached for it. Now after declaring that he would not be contest after 2011 came back to say he would contest 2015. I argued then that if Buhari was to be sincere in his proclamation about not going to court after loosing, he would have declared his retirement from partisan politics after loosing and even if cpc went ahead to court, no one would ask him about it. But he didn't which shows he his not sincere in his submission. Now he will continue to contest until Nigerians enjoy the dividend of democracy. why must he be the one after 70 years of age? Is their is no other person he can support? when shall the youth grow? when IBB said Nigerian youths are not ripe, we all condemned him, but Buhari's action confirms that. Why can't they raise a youth and support him? why must he, I rest. AOH
Buhari has every right to decide not to go to court or go to court and also has the right to contest or contest. If you see this as a sign of insensirety why don't you ask the same question to GEJ who was in attendance at a PDP meeting were it was decided that the North shall produce president in 2007 and 2011? Did GEJ not promised that he was going to contest in 2011 only and give others the chance to contest?
This thing has nothing to do with age but honesty and competence. If you have any reason which you think disqualifies state it.
