Emordi resigned as the coach of Enyimba paving the way for Maikaba to take over
Former African champions Enyimba have named assistant boss Abdu Maikaba as their new coach.

Maikaba's elevation is the latest in a revolving door of coaching at the club following the exit of Okey Emordi.

The 46-year-old Maikaba has been at the club since 2009 after previous spells at Kano Pillars, Buffalo and FC Abuja.

Club chairman Felix Anyansi Agwu says they are embarking on an ambitious restructuring programme to revive the fortunes of the Peoples' Elephant.

Before Enyimba won the African Champions League in 2003, no club from Africa's most populous nation had ever been crowned continental champions since the tournament began in 1964
"The appointment of Maikaba is the first step of our restructuring execise. Everyone knows the situation the club finds itself in at the moment," Anyansi told BBC Sport.

"We will also have big names arriving at the club in the coming weeks as we finalise our negotiations.

"Professionalism and a little patience is the key as the board takes time to get things organised and improved.

"I'm very confident that come next-season we'll have a strong squad on the pitch and on the bench."

Two time winners of the Caf Champions league [2003 and 2004] Enyimba lethargic performance saw them crash out in the semi-final this year.

The six time Nigerian league champions also lost the 2011 FA Cup to big rivals Heartland of Owerri.

With two Caf Champions league crown, two Caf Super Cup, two Nigerian FA Cup trophies won, the club is arguably the most successful side in the West African country.
