PART 22 WHO IS A CHRISTIAN? ARE WE: CHRISTIANS PRACTICING PAGANISM? OR PAGANS PRACTICING CHRISTIANITY?
And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage.Galatians2:4KJV

HOW CAN WE BE BORN OF WATER AND OF SPIRIT? THE CONCEPT OF BIRTH: Before we explain the concept of being born of water, we have to realize that the Lord talked about Birth and not Death. This takes our mind out of the concept of water baptism. Baptism is coined from the word baptizo which means immersion. Here we are immersed and buried in water, well covered and then raised up into a new and living way. Birth takes place after a woman in labor of a child in her womb delivers successfully. This pregnancy came as a result of an insemination that took place in the womb of the woman. During the period of nine months, the fetus experiences growth in the womb of the mother. In the womb, the mother feeds the child through the umbilical cord and for safety and to ensure normal growth, the child must stay within the environment of the womb well connected such that any where the mother goes the child in her womb goes. They become inseparable until birth takes place. At this stage the child is said to be born of the mother. BORN OF WATER/WORD: Similarly, we cannot be Born of water except we pass through this same process. In Ephesians 5:26, the scripture states: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. Also in John 15:3 Jesus states: Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. By these scriptures, Water spiritually means the Word of God. Therefore when Jesus was asking us to be Born of Water, He meant that we should be Born of His Word. Immediately, we are Born again(John 3:3) the Lord expects us to move further into the womb of the Word like a fetus in the womb of the mother, where we are nourished and well fed for normal spiritual growth. Any where the Word goes, we must go. Anything the Word says, we must say and do. We must ensure that we keep ourselves within the environment of the Word. The Word and we should be inseparable to ensure proper spiritual growth. At the appointed time prescribed by God, the Word gives birth to us thus we become spiritual men and women born of the Word. BORN OF THE SPIRIT: The same principle and process applies to one being Born of the Spirit. We must get into the womb of the Spirit to be nourished and fed by Him. The Spirit feeds us with the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. At this stage of spiritual growth we see ourselves learning to walk and be in absolute obedience to the Spirit of God. God had appointed the Holy Spirit to prepare us as the bride for Christ. At His appointed time the Spirit of God delivers us thus said to be born of the Spirit. Beloved as we yield our lives to being Born of Water/Word and of the Spirit, God gives us the right to entering the kingdom of God. The Word and the Spirit are the two witnesses to approve of us that we are no more children but Sons of God. This is why the scripture in Romans 8:14 states: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the Sons of God. Romans 8: 14 KJV.

THEREFORE WHAT DOES THE TERM “CHRIST IN YOU”REALLY MEAN IN RELATION TO THE TABERNACLE OF MOSES?

Many Born again believers tend to have it stocked in their minds that all God requires of us is just to be Born again thereafter have the license to live our own lives. Being born again means “Christ in us”. The pill “Christ in us” is a starter pack for all those who receive Christ as their personal savior. At this stage we have just moved into the Outer Court being welcomed by the Holy Spirit who is the sole executive agent of the outer court. The Holy Spirit points us directly to the two furniture in the outer court, the Brazen Altar and the Brazen Laver. Here, He demands that we must satisfy the conditions laid down by these furniture before we move into the next compartment call “IN CHRIST JESUS” We cannot be allowed entrance through the door(see diagram) into the Holy place until the Holy Spirit certifies us fit. The Holy Place is the place called “In Christ Jesus” Jesus Christ is fully in control to take us through the three stages in the Holy place. The scripture in Colossians 1:27 states: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.Colossians1:27KJV

“Christ in you” is a hope of glory. The glory is ahead which is in Christ Jesus. We have a choice to seek for that glory or to remain as Outer Court believers. “CHRIST IN US” IS ONLY A HOPE OF GLORY. The glory cannot be a reality until we are certified and approved by the Holy Spirit that we have fully satisfied the demands of the Brazen Altar meaning “Dead to sin” and Brazen Laver,” Dead to self”. Jesus revealed this to us in Luke 9:23; And he said to them all , if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily , and follow me. The Lord in this passage spells out these two conditions; that we must deny ourselves (dead to self) and take up our cross (dead to sin) and follow Him (that is move into the Holy place). Every Born again child of God has only one option to make it into Christ Jesus. He must submit himself to the Holy Spirit as a sacrificial ram submits to the High Priest at the Brazen Altar. As He leads us to the Brazen Altar, we are faced with its operations. Death, Death, it speaks out again and again: All Flesh Must Die Here

WHAT HAPPENS TO ME AT THE BRAZEN ALTAR?

DIAGRAM of Brazen Altar

This is Calvary within man’s heart where the ram of man’s sinful life is being crucified. It is made of Shittim wood overlaid with brass. The dimensions of the Brazen Altar were 5x5x3 cubits having four horns at the four corners of the wood overlaid with brass. Wood is a type of humanity and of the flesh. This shows that man born of the flesh would have to save man. The scripture in Romans8:3 states: For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.Romans8:3 KJV. Also, 1Cor.15:21 the scripture reveals: For since by man come death, by man comes also the resurrection. Brass speaks of judgment. The Brazen Altar is overlaid with brass showing that at this Altar, sin must be judged. The Horns at the four corners of the Altar deflates our last energy to resist the Holy Spirit, refuting our arguments, theories, reasoning, and every proud and lofty thing that set itself up against the true knowledge of God, leading every thought and purpose captive into the obedience of Christ as applicable to the bull on the Brazen Altar. It represents “Not my will Lord’. The High Priest and his sons, the priests come together after sanctifying themselves to perform their priestly duties. Similarly our Great High Priest, who is our Lord Jesus Christ, takes over by the leading of the Holy Spirit to prepare us as the ram or bull is being prepared for the cleansing at the fire of the Brazen Altar. There are three operations and changes that take place at the Brazen Altar. First, the changes that occur through death as a result of the use of sword of the Spirit, secondly, the changes that occurs through fire and thirdly the changes that will finally occur through the form it becomes Digestible. As we yield our life to the Holy Spirit, He passes us through these changes in order to purge out the old life and replace it with the new life. Anyone who fails to submit himself to this process of transformation is yet to die to sin. The scripture in John 12: 24 states: Except a corn of wheat fall to the ground and die, it abided alone: but if it dies, it bringeth forth much fruit. Let us tie up this scripture with the process of becoming a disciple of Christ. The principle of Death is a necessity to bearing much fruit.

CHANGE BY DEATH. Like the bull, we are brought into the position of the Brazen Altar where our Great High Priest, our Lord Jesus Christ by His Spirit runs the sword of the Spirit down the throat of our soul thus drains out the old life. The old life expires giving way for a higher life through death. The sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God is used to skin out every atom of flesh in our soul and body and like what the High priest does to the bull he removes the dung from its inside to be taken outside the tabernacle, that is outside the camp and then burnt with fire. CHANGE BY FIRE. The fire at the Brazen Altar is lit by God and is the fire of judgment and death. As our soul and body is placed on the Altar just like the flesh of the bull being placed on it. Fire from heaven gulfs our whole being just like when Jesus Christ was hung on the cross and His whole being aflame. The old fluid [thoughts, desires of the flesh, reasoning, lust and pride of life] in our soul and body that is our flesh dries out and is taken away. At this stage we are transformed to a spiritual steak whose state and new life has been broken down to digestible forms fit for the bosom of our Great High Priest. In the new and living way it’s no longer I but Christ is to be seen. The fire of the Holy Ghost had destroyed the old man who always responds to sin thus we can no more serve sin. This thought is confirmed in Romans6:6,7. It states: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Romans6:6,7 KJV.

CHANGE BY ASSIMILATION/DIGESTION. As the meat at this stage becomes food for the High Priest at the Table of Shewbread in the Holy place so also we are assimilated and digested by Christ Jesus being one with Him in everything. Our new life is summarize as follows: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me Galatians2:20KJV.

At this spiritual state we become Dead in Christ, our Great High priest. We are no more seen but Christ.

Therefore beloved, as we accept the work done by our Lord Jesus Christ and His death at Calvary we are being brought to the same position as the bull being worked by the Holy Spirit and the word which is the sword of the Spirit. Here as the High priest works on the bull to give up its life for a higher life in him so also we are meant to give up our natural, old life to gain the spiritual and higher life that is in Christ Jesus. Let us look at this scripture in Rom.6:6-7 again. knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. There are three major elements from this scripture, sin, the old man, and the body of sin. The process of sinning follows this order first, sin, next, the old man, lastly the body. Sin exudes its power to attract man and force him to sin. Since the old man delights in sin, he condones sin and bends to it, instigating the body of sin. The Lord Jesus in going to the cross took not only our sins but our being along with Him that is our old man being crucified with Him. As the crucifixion of Christ is an accomplished fact so our old man crucified with Him is an additional accomplished fact. So if we cannot doubt the reality of the crucifixion of Christ, why should we doubt the reality of the crucifixion of our old man? Beloved we have to minister to God to give us the revelation of this scripture:” knowing this” in our spirit so that we may truly confess that “our old man has been crucified with him” .What is the consequence of the crucifixion of the old man? It is “That the Body of sin might be destroyed”. As believers we realize that when sin stirred, our old man responds and consequently the body practices sin. With the crucifixion of the old man and its replacement by the new man, sin may still stir within and attempt to exert its pressure but it fails to find the consent of the old man in driving the body to sin. Sin no longer tempt the believer because he is a new man, the old is dead. One may ask: why God chooses to crucify our Old man with Christ and render our Body out of work? His strategy is plain, that we should no longer serve sin and sin should never exercise dominion over us. Praise the LORD for this great deliverance. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah! Therefore beloved let us see ourselves enter into this realm of blessings daily to practice fully Rom.6:11 which states: Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Beloved we must believe His word and reckon ourselves as dead. One may ask: How do we die? Let us consider ourselves dead to sin and our relation to it broken. Then: How should we consider ourselves alive to God? When God says that our old man is dead and buried we count ourselves dead also; when He insists we are made alive we should reckon ourselves as alive. If we can only believe His Word and become fully persuaded in our heart that what He has done is true, sure and certain, then the Holy Spirit shall give us the experience and would communicate to us our blessing in Christ Jesus. Finally brethren, to ensure that a proper work has been accomplished in us at the Brazen Altar let us abide by what Romans6: 13 states: Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members and faculties to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from dead to perpetual life, and your bodily members and faculties to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness.Romans6:13Amplvs
