Three of the newly deployed mobile policemen to complement efforts of the command to fight incessant armed robberies in Ogun State, have been arrested for allegedly perpetrating illegality in the course of carrying out their duties.

Commissioner of police, Nicholas Ndemkeme, made the disclosure on Tuesday while parading number of arrested criminals, including armed robbery suspects at Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, adding that the arrested mobile policemen would soon face orderly room trial.

He said the policemen were arrested for allegedly extorting money from motorists and passersby, in the course of keeping security watch to checkmate criminals and their activities.

The police boss further declared that the command will not encourage crime and illegality in any form from its men, stressing that calling or assigning any one of them for special assignment should not be seen as avenue to engage in fraud.

"Those arrested now in police net would be given orderly room trial, it should be known that if you deployed for special assignment, it should not be seen as guarantee to engage in illegality" Nkemdeme stated.

However, at the parade of suspects which took place at Eleweran Police Headquarters, NEXT reports that fifteen suspected armed robbers, two murder suspects as well as one suspected kidnappers were shown by the command to newsmen.

In a related development, two fake policemen were apprehended by the Border Joint Patrol on stop and search duty at Ilashe when the suspects were intercepted in an old Toyota Camry car.

The car was said to have been driven by one Ogundare Olayiwola Samson dressed in police uniform with the rank of assistant superintendent of police. The logo on his shoulder gave the impression that the officer was a fake one.
