Your answer may be correct but did the initial question followed mathematical logic?,,I do not think it's logical to expect one to begin to change the mathematical signs from the original form to solve questions as there are mathematical rules as to when signs can be changed,like crossing the equal sign but in this case there was nothing like that.

OP, you cannot just change signs to find an answer. You must follow the rules of mathematics to arrive at an answer.

The answer is 4, but it appears that I am the only person that would solve it a different way without changing the mathematical sign directly as follows;

for the first expression;
9 + 5 = 16, is solved this way
9² - 5² = 56
9 + 5 = 14
(56/14)² = 16


for the second expression;
6² - 3² = 27
6 + 3 = 9
(27/9)² = 9

and then for the unknown question

18 + 16 = ?
18² - 16² = 68
(68/34)² = 4

It should however be noted that this is a long route as the mathematical expression x² - y² = (x -y)(x+y) would break down the method i've put up there to the correct results provided here in
