Nothing is too big or too small to be thankful for. Nobody is also too big or too small to appreciate

Enough to fire an ingrate of course yes!!! grin grin

Some people did not even collect December Salary, you collect 13th salary, rice and oil, and you don't find it fit to send even a WhatsApp message or text from another person's phone even if your phone is bad... Haba!!! Serious act of negligence and ungratefulness!!

It's a lesson to learn.
Moral of the story, learn to be grateful and thankful even for the little things.

Ingratitude bad... May God always save me from the oversight ..because that's the only reason I'd appear ungrateful...I'm a very grateful person

A lot of Nigerians suffer from this "Messiah complex" where we always want to be given excessive respect and expect beneficiaries of small acts of kindness to crawl on all fours in appreciation, pledging undying loyalty in the process. This nigga's boss is a classic example.

It is sickening.
Re: Is This A Good Enough Reason To Fire An Employee? by Charbliss90: 10:05am On Jan 15, 2025
What did you just type. Gratitude is the best act to receive more, we always teach our children to always appreciate little gesture but we will be preaching bad acts on social media. How on earth will you not appreciate your Boss for such a kindness

There's no better reason to fire someone than this
Your actions reflect poor judgment. Who fires someone simply because they gave out bonuses without receiving a thank-you? If you understand that we practice a primitive style of personnel management in this country, you'd know this wouldn't fly in an advanced society. No one expects gratitude for issuing bonuses.

I don't understand the need to call your boss to thank him for giving you your unwritten entitlements.
A guy was fired for this
Nigerian employers should know get to understand that as long you employees have worked or put in effort to turn up monthly... pay them. Employees owe you to turn and do the job while the Employers owes the employees their wage or salary.

But in Nigeria, they see it as doing you a favour. Why do I have go thank my boss for showing up and putting in efforts?
Re: Is This A Good Enough Reason To Fire An Employee? by 3ice9ce: 10:07am On Jan 15, 2025
If the guy was a very good employee, he won't have been sacked.

If the guy had sense and home training, he would have shown appreciation.

It is not by force to show appreciation. It is also not by force for them to employ you. To each his own.

This feels completely wrong.

I know a company that paid bonuses exceeding N500k, and everyone carried on as usual without making a fuss. Not to mention the Christmas gifts given to staff

Ingratitude is a huge turnoff!

My boss is quite unhappy I’ve not called or texted to wish her “happy new year”.

Those things mean nothing to me ohhh.
Don’t know why people see them as special.

One of the reasons why government work dey sweet. 😁, unless pesin put you inside, to whom you owe continuous allegiance.

It’s well…

Ehennnnnnn! Unwritten entitlement indeed! Na wa for this generation Sha. Will that staff die if he appreciates his boss for the Christmas bonus? It simply shows he lacks good home training. Pride has so blinded people that they don't value or appreciate a kind gesture. Some can't even greet their boss or colleagues. Anyway, now that he's been sacked, he can go and work in his father's company.

That boss is a fool. Bringing emotions into his work place will run his company down. He doesn't owe him gratitude. He's working for him and only thing he owes his staff is their pay. Whatever he does out of good will is his decision either as a way of incentives or goodwill or both. Whichever way, it's the prerogative of the recipient to acknowledge or not. If you think he's an ingrate, stop giving him more than you think he deserves

I don't even need a prophet to tell me that you have a low-paying job. If you work for a boss who pays you so well, something in you will always tell you that you should show some gratitude, especially when you look around you and see abject penury in your country.
Re: Is This A Good Enough Reason To Fire An Employee? by nwirinedu(m): 10:15am On Jan 15, 2025
It cost nothing to say thank you, a text message will suffice. Even if the items mean nothing to you. Its called maintaining a cordial reationship.

The employee was sacked because the bonus was not for staff welfare. The boss gave the bonus to feed his ego. In fact, it was not bonus. It was that kind of giving that some reach people give the poor in their villages and expect worship in return.
it's probably a small office setting where the staffs have their bosses number and call him directly for certain requests or issues.

In such cases the bosses expects staffs to show appreciation for the unexpected gift which he went through certain lengths to do for them.

Not every private business pays Christmas bonus.

In a one man business structure, wisdom dictates you acknowledge and express gratitude, even if it is insincere.
