Please I need assistance from all the Honda experts. What is the best engine oil,according to factory specifications, for use in Honda baby boy LX 1999 model in Nigeria. I use Total quartz 7000 and it seems to burn out when I clock 2000 kilometers. The car don't smoke and you cant find any leakage anywhere. But at 1600 kilometers and above the oil dosent gauge again, usually between the gauge and low marks on the dip stick. I changed to Total quartz 5000 and I still notice same thing. What could be the possible issue? I will appreciate any assistance offered. Than you

Quartz 7000 is 10W40(wrong)

From Total page it seems they only have 5W30 with the Total 9000(total is mainly for European brands)

Only few people in Nigeria use manufacturers' recommended oil. I think 5W30 is synthetic, equivalent to mobil 1. It s about 9k for 4 litres. Try Mobil XHP and see how far it will go, if your rings are still ok and no leakage, the level will not drop. The milage on your car may not necessarily determine the wear on your rings or engine block but how regularly u change and the type of oil you use on the car.

Sir, rings have a part to play if you do an oil change longer than expected. Nontheless, i guess we are speaking the same language in different context.

I can't tell you which oil meets Honda's spec but if you download and read the link I posted it shows what to look for on the oil container.

Your engine is old and you are using the wrong oil weight . If you look at the Total product line in that link the lower label of the container tells you the weight. So look for oil with minimum APISJ spec 5W30. A lot of cars were killed because some were adding 20W50.

5w-20 and 5w-30 can be purchased online from , www.jumia.com, and www.webmallng.com. Or from a company called SOLUTIONS PLUS. They sell these oils from their Yaba office. Their numbers are 0706 700 9400, 0708 160 9482, & 0909 685 1969.

I've used mobil xhp for my honda 99accord ex over 4years now with no issues at all. I was advised by my mech that its the closest to the recommended type by the manual after I searched unsuccessfully for the exact type in the manual. @op can try it out.
