The question is do we still have true living church on this part of the clim? Truth is bitter, especially to the slaves of these deceptive Mammon disciples who call themselves spiritual leaders. The church here can only get it right when the spiritual leaders stops receiving dollars and pounds from politicians in the name of donations.

not just the church. Religion and tribalism.

ALL RELIGION IN NIGERIA IS MISLEADING THE PEOPLE

More like NIgeria is the problem of Nigerians.

Plus the writer is busy blaming other countries for our problems. That is nonsense. The problem with many African countries is that most of them are run on sharing resources from what we sell. Not using resources to make stuff that would meet global needs.

A lot of people like to blame religion. Well, there were irreligious countries like the USSR that had no religion, and failed not because they were atheist but because their economic policy was set up to discourage money reward for innovation. Result...zero innovation, and a stagnant economy, and eventually they had to start borrowing money from the same IMF and West to stay afloat, until the end.

Yet here in Nigeria we blame religon, blame other countries, blame even godlessness, and atheistic, and western culture, and Arab culture. Meanwhile, we don't pay enough for power, we don't as a nation pay enough in tax revenue, we run an economy that is based on the price of oil, we excuse corruption when it is our side, and we refuse to vote for competent people. And we try to run a welfare state on limited funds from resources, whose prices, I should mention...we do not control.

In other words, we do bad economics, and have done so since independence. We like to praise our leaders like Awo, Zik and Sir bello...when what they were doing was taking money from sale of resources and sharing the money and building white elephants, and not improving revenue collection...and trying to subsidise everything.

See the legacy. A debt ridden nation.

I mean it isn't religion fault. All the communist countries were irreligious, and yet all of them collapsed ..except China which switched to capitalism, Vietnam and Laos (also switched to capitalism) and Cuba and North Korea, (both on life support from China and Rossiya)...because being without religion does not insulate one from making wrong decisions.
In this your comment, you captured my PLACE from day one!

1. Is the church or religion the problem of Nigeria? Very big No!

2. Is western countries the problem of Nigeria or Africa? Another big NO!

3. Who is the problem? Nigerians themselves and their thought processes and ways of doing things.

Any society that doesn’t reward good behavior and strictly punishes bad behaviors is doomed.

With equal and efficient justice system, everyone including the members of the church and the general public will sit up!

There’s no way or magic around it.

The Church may not be the problem, but has she succeeded in her role in being the solution? We exist to be the light in the midst of darkness, which is why Jesus said, let your light not only shine but so shine that men may see your good works—-your solution to the world’s problem and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

In your opinion, @OP, do you think the Church is fulfilling the reason for which she exists?

Most of the criticisms the Church gets would you say it is unjustified? We were called to live in a way that is free of blame, but is that how we live?

When a things deviates from its purpose, abuse is the result.

Instead of justifying the bashings we receive from the world, we should see it as a call to “so shine”.

When we become light indeed even the world won’t have a basis to continual bash us
huh

Why not u come back from Europe and lead the protest against bad leaders in Africa.

If black man never see who to blame for his woes, e no go ever rest. Keep blaming the west for your backwardness while your leaders steal everything that belongs to you.

The problem of Nigerians is lack of love for country. Nobody likes this shit hole; everyone is after what they can loot. You keep blaming the white man for your avarice. So, if the white man tells you to kill your mother and get paid, you will do it, right? SENSELESS RACE!

Great write up filled with so much emotions and bias. Lets all open our mind to the essence of religion and not concentrate on the miracles YOU as a person encounter. We have ruined the fabrics of religion and spirituality in Africa. We neglect the mind damage and suppression of our ability to think and be rational.

Back to the topic, religion is supposed to cut our excesses and guide us through a godly path. Look around you, does it look like our excesses are moderate? Does it look like we are obeying God? These politicians that you speak belong to a religious faith, why ain't we seeing effect of the teachings of the church or mosque in there governance?

Lets put aside religion and look at what is expected of us in our various ways of life, we are selfish, greedy, self centered by default. That's the major reason religion can never have an impact.
Religion is a personal thing, the so called good Christians and Muslims thinks they're more righteous than you are, they both are fighting for religious supremacy.

Our problems are interwoven, if we stop being hypocritical and correct our wrong doings in religious houses may be our mindset can be restructured.

If you say the church(church) is not the problem I disagree with you, it is a large chunk our problem. Look around you and stop being selective.

From my own perspective, I quote the below verses, and you do the reading and understand my point.

- Christians are the salt of the world
- Christians are the light of the world.

Why Americans value Christianity till today is because the foundation of America was laid on Christian's faith and principles, even Trump understand that. Their forefathers laid the foundation of America on Christian faith and we all can see that America is the light of the world. Though Americans now lives in inquities but the righteousness of their fathers still speak for them.

Through churches ; the preaching of gospel and missionary schools light came into Africa,Nigeria NOT THROUGH THEIR GOVERMENT. If I may ask,how has the Churches in Nigeria spread the light?
I can't say more,go and read the impact of Christian faith on America, how the government of USA was shaped by Christians' faith you will understand that the role of church in a country is like salt in the soup and it is like that of light in the darkness. It is that light that shape the government to do the needful but when church loses its role what do you expect from the govt?

There are different context in which one can say the church is the problem.

Scripturally...
When King David sinned, he was rebuked by the Prophet Samuel.

When the Kingdoms was divided , the Prophet at that time if not for respect for one of the Kings, he would not have honoured their invitation because of the evil of the other king.

Christ Jesus was found in the midst of tax collectors, the worst of men in those days, but only to bring them to God. I'm sure we all know, what Zaccheus did, before the Lord said today salvation has come to your house.
Christ Jesus was not interested in what donations they would give to the Church but that they render their souls to the heavenly Father.

Do you see that happening in the times we are found?

When a governor refuses to pay the wages of the civil servants and that of pensioners, conduct promotion hold his subordinates accountable for their works but donates to the Church, who does he give honor to...

Can anyone mock God?

Simply put....

Rom.2.24 - For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," as it is written.

Do we not know what the above means.

Many say they are christians yet the are tribalistic is all aspects of their Christianity.

Nigerians are foolish and weak. They only attack the Church because the church is peaceful in disposition. They can't call Islam out despite the heinous crimes.
Re: Is The Church The Problem Of Nigeria? by Tommydare(m): 10:42am On Feb 23, 2025
The thing is even if we don't pray or go to church, we wouldn't still do anything. You won't still be able to innovate anything reasonable even if you don't pray or go to church. Ordinary Torch or rechargeable lamp, we wont still be able to do. You will rather see them in beer palprs or hotels. Even before Christianity came, we were backward. Had it been we were not backward, they wouldn't have been able to penetrate us and give us all what they gave us and make us drop the ones in our hands. Those countries we compare ourselves to are not our mate right from time. Christianity has nothing to do with been poor. There are people that are massively rich and are Christians or Muslims and they do pray.

Any human being who collects money from other humans on behalf of an unseen entity is a THIEF . You don't need a judge to tell you that.

Any human who gives money to another human with the mindset that he/she is giving money to the creator of the universe or any unseen entity is not only a big fool but a mad person.

Is one of the problems of Nigeria because our pastors wants to leave large at the expense of the congregation by preaching prosperity through miracles this, miracles that and before we are use to say my Bible says but now my daddy in the lord says, no more Gospel preaching and the truth is no more for the people. Even they praise the politician who stole public funds so as to get money from them. They create many fear into people hearts so that they can come for miracles so as to get money from them. If you open your radio early in the morning samething you will hear from different radio stations. Se life na war?
