Position: CLO Co-ordinator/Consular Assistant -Band E

General

The British Deputy High Commission is looking for a Consular Assistant to work in the Consular Section, Lagos. The successful candidate will undertake a variety of administration tasks. The main duties will include the registration of British nationals, assistance with the management of the Consular Liaison Officer network and general administrative duties.

The Consular Section, Lagos is committed to delivering high-quality support to British nationals in Nigeria, Benin and Equatorial Guinea in normal times and in crises. To achieve this Consular Section has a challenging Action Plan to deliver the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s 2007-2010 Consular Strategy and the Nigeria Country Business Plan.

Qualities needed

We are looking for applicants with good oral and written communication skills. In particular, the successful candidate will be able to work quickly and accurately, often under pressure, and have a positive approach to tackling problems. A willingness to take on new tasks will be required. The most important qualities required are reliability, a flexible approach and the ability to work well in a team committed to high quality customer service. Attention to detail and discretion are essential.

Previous experience of working within a Consular Section or other office environment would be desirable. Good keyboard skills and a working knowledge of computer software packages (notably MS Word, Excel and databases) are essential.

This is a full time position on a 12-month fixed term renewable contract. A job share option will be considered. Working hours 0730 – 1530 Monday to Thursday and 0730-1230 Fridays. The job will be graded Band E with a starting salary N113, 400 including allowances (except medical allowance).
