With the hiked petrol price would you buy a diesel engine powered car?

Was in Ghana few months back and while discussing with the cab driver that moves me around, he informed me that most taxi drivers have converted their petrol engine to diesel. Don't know how possible it is technically, but he said there's a device they place in engine which makes it possible to accept diesel. I hope that th auto gurus here can throw more light here.

If this is true, I'm sure that this would become a new trend in Naija.

Would not buy a diesel engined power car, cos no matter how quiet they claim modern diesel engines are, they still sound like a blender on idle !!!
Would not mind a full electric car. (not hybrid)
