CALABAR – A liter of fuel now sells for N250 in some parts of Cross River State just as some motorists including bus/taxi drivers have packed their vehicles as a result of scarcity of fuel and high prize in some stations that have the product.

Is that part of Nigeria different from other parts?

I once made it known to those in support of the removal of the subsidy based on the fact that petrol was already 'expensive' in some parts of Nigeria that the price would simply go up more once the subsidy was removed. This is what is happening here.

Not surprised @all.Benchmark by PPPRA is N131,meaning profit for dealers will b btw N9-N11,its an unrealistic profit for d average nigerian petrol marketer.I see this scenario:d marketers in d form of a cabal come together, look @d small price margin, decide its way too low & decide to fix it for @least N180 -N200 depending on d part of d country.Welcome to d real fuel cabals of d future.
Unsubsidised fuel will not sell for N140-N150 for long, mark my words,if left like this, petrol won't sell for less than N200 by year end

whoever is reporting this is simply malicious. There is fuel in Calabar @ the current going cost. Calabar is usually a peaceful city and GEJ or subsidy wont change that. Anybody who feels like having some peace and quiet please come to Calabar.

I believe bicycles are an option, for short trips. Driving for a 4-mile round trip is pointless.

Car sharing is also another idea, if two or more people live and work in the same area, sharing a car and splitting the cost of fuel three ways will make things easier. If all three people own cars, they can alternate who's car is used on a weekly basis.

So they can be killed like dogs? They will have muchmore of an effect by messing with the government's money. This is what organizations such as NLC and TUC, etc. are doing.
Re: Calabar – A Liter Of Fuel Now Sells For N250 In Some Part by jpphilips(m): 4:12pm On Jan 05, 2012
this was my response to k brown when the vodoo economist iweala proposed 120naira.

excerpts;

You simply forgot that the same people
who have these license whose subsidy you
want to remove are the same people you
expect to flood the market for competion.
Let me tell you the end of this road
Once subsidy is removed, these existing
importers will unite and create an artificial
scacity, the proposed 120naira will remain
a mirage
Once scarce, the price will skyrocket and
they will make 4times their profit before
subsidy removal, as we speak, they are
praying for the Govt to miss cue.
The new licensed individuals cannever
have the liquidity to saturate the market at
lower cost also bearing in mind that the
existing cartel already have an efficient
structure, all the cabal need is 60percent
control of the market and they will be the
price determinants
By the end of the first quarter of next year
odechukwu will go begging them to crash
prices and you know what will happen,
they will simply refuse or demand for
ridiculos govt soft loans and grants and we
will have another cement situation and
more expensive subsidy
By the end of the above we will have more
professional beggers on the streets of
Lagos.
Make no mistakes, the Govt 120naira
proposed landing cost and little profit will
never interprete as end user pump price
because at that level, the Govt will lose its
local standi on asking for a price crash.
The new players will meet various degree
of obstacles and fustrations from the cabal
and kick backs paid to this stinking PDP
administration
The only reason it is stable at 65 is
because Govt is paying for it once that is
removed, you will buy PMS above
250naira/l
wait till iran carries out its threat then Naija is bleeped,
countries find it diffifult to purchase at international rates let alone Nigerians.
Say 'no' to subsidy removal
Say 'yes' to corruption fight
Say 'yes' to accountability
Say 'yes' to the resignation of iweala
Say 'yes' to peaceful civil disobedience
Say 'yes' to enlightenment of the armed
forces
Say 'no' to anything PDP whether or not he
or she is wearing a hat.
An economy without electricity cannever
develop with high energy cost, iweala is
bamboozling her PDP boyfriends not
Nigerians.
If she she can proove the above, lets
debate on Aljazeera 'frost'
Iweala dont be a coward accept this
challenge and convince Nigerians i am
ready for your Invitation.

Just #250.00 per litre! It's not too bad! When it gets too much, each mature member of the public will make a decisive move. We know what we should do. We can still exercise some more patience. Let us continue!

Trying to be too smart for your own good? Both are right, though immaterial at this time bro.

Got anything to contribute?
