President Jonathan To Be Impeached? by megawax8: 11:03am On Jan 06, 2012
A member of the House of
Representatives, Monsur Alao
Owolabi, has described President
Goodluck Jonathan’s removal of
fuel subsidy as an impeachable
offence.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun
in Lagos, Owolabi who
represents Mainland Federal
Constituency hinged this on the
fact that the president did the
withdrawal illegally.
Said he: “It is a big fraud. We
have not discussed it at the
National Assembly, how can you
jump from your bed and remove
the subsidy. We mentioned it, but
we did not discuss it at all. It is
an impeachable offence.
Everybody knows that.”
The angry lawmaker stressed
that he was particularly piqued
by the development in view of
the grave implications for the
polity.
“The way this man (Jonathan) is
going, I think he wants to cause
anarchy in the country. He really
wants to cause anarchy. We are
still operating 2011 budget and
there is fuel subsidy in that
budget. By end of March, we will
start operating 2012 budget.
Why did he remove subsidy
now,” he queried.
Continuing, Owolabi who was
elected on the platform of the
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),
stressed that the matter will top
the agenda of the federal
lawmakers when they resume
soon, stressing, even PDP
lawmakers will pick up the
gauntlet on the matter.
“They (PDP lawmakers) reason.
They are no fools. There are
intellectuals among them. We are
the representatives of the
common people. What happen to
them also happen to us,” he
declared.
According to him, there was also
the corruption angle regarding
the latest development, saying
questions needed to be asked
about what happens to the fuel
subsidy for the months of
January, February and March
2012, already captured in the
2011 budget.
This, he reasoned has made it
imperative for federal lawmakers
to tackle the authorities over the
matter to lay it to rest.
Said he: “We will resist it, if
heaven wants to fall, let it fall
because the problem will come
back to us.”
He lamented that, instead of
government to look at issues of
corruption bedeviling the
petroleum sector by righting the
wrongs, it was merely chasing
shadows.
Specifically, Owolabi stressed that
if the Federal Government is
serious, it ought to look at
measures that could bring back
refineries to make Nigeria refine
locally and for export.
“People are feeding fat on this.
We have to be careful that this
thing does not cause trouble,” he
said.
The ACN chieftain stressed that
Federal Government should be
careful in handling sensitive
issues in order to halt chaos in
the land.
“We must be careful in this
country, because we are sitting
on a keg of gun powder, and this
thing can explode anytime, any
day,” he warned. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/jan/06/national-06-01-2011-002.html

I am not support the FG but what was budget for subsidy in 2011 is N250billion and over N1.3 trillion has been spent so far using borrowed funds as augments so using the budgetary year allocation cannot hold.Maybe some other cogents reasons will do
