All this talk about economy collasping is never because of fuel subsidy. Its because of the non frugality of the president. Lets not forget the role Money played in GEJ's election: the paid pdp delegates, paid endorsements (too numerous to mention), the $200M entertainment fund/scam , the N86B INEC maga, the ones that called themselves neighbor to neighbor and lots more.
Fast forward to post election period: the president and his 300 entourage visit to Australia, numerous travels with numerous entourage, numerous committees, advisers (almost 1 is appointed everyday), Inflated domestic budget etc. The president is wasteful. He is too hard to maintain (I know he had no shoes before). So all these dragged the nation to poverty. The monies from these would have been used to build refineries and so on. So its not even about trusting the govt. Its about funding his poor man to riches lifestyle

^^

We should be happy to have the team of Sanusi, Ngozi, GEJ & Sambo

What else can we ask for?

We asked for change

and they are giving it to us, the best way round

tho it is expensive, but that is just the basic truth.

The whole world will be laughing at us now, cuz we don't want change!

Nigeria must either have gained independence in 2010 or must have been very rich in 2009
Re: Jonathan Dragged Nigeria To Poverty. by MrGlobe(m): 7:40pm On Jan 09, 2012
^ Yes. How much did the late Yaradua leave in the foriegn reserve against the $0 today?
Jonathan has killed this nation together with his butlers.

Oh @umechuma why do want me to tell you to drink rat poison when you can do that yourself
Re: Jonathan Dragged Nigeria To Poverty. by Nobody: 7:46pm On Jan 09, 2012
^^^^^

How much was in the Foreign Reserve when OBJ left power and how much was there when Yar'adua died?

What was the value of the Naira relative to the dollar or pound when the British left? and how much was it in 1999 when OBJ came to power? What was the state of infrastructures when the Bristish left and what is the state now. What was our GDP per capita in the 1960s compared to 1999.

Jonathan is a useless President but you can not wake up from slumber and claim he dragged us into poverty as if we have ever been a rich Nation.

The history of this Nation did not begin in 1999. We gained independence in 1960 and for most of the last 50years somebody was in charge and it was not Jonathan. So lets put these things in context!

Part of the wastefulness of GEJ's govt is the möney spent on paying for all these folks who roam about anti-GEJ posts trying to speak for him or outrightly derail threads.u all know urselves.

The problem is that some of you dont like the truth. You think you can pick and choose what version of our history to refer. Sorry it is no longer all about u.

I get your point but what I mean is that Jonathan killed any hope of strengthening the nations economy with his frivolous spendings. Today, the executive and legislature are competing for who spends most and thus he is looking for money to finance their spending.
Talking about history, obasanjo left over $30B in the reserves, same with Yaradua. Today their is nothing there. Exchange rate is high against naira. When every external money that comes in is used to finance leadership, then their is povery. He pushed the nation to the floor. Get the point.

I was gonna say o.
I never knew Nigeria was a rich country prior to all this 'subsidy drama'.
So, we actually have more than on 'gbese billionaire' huh? wink

I agree GEJ may not have ''dragged Nigeria into poverty'' --the title carries just a little bit too much sentiment.

There is however, serious questions this administration has to answer regarding its financial prudence and transparency,  some of which were raised by Fani kayode:

questionable increase of subsidy from 300b to 1.3t in just a year.

depletion of foreign reserve from $80b to $33b

depletion of ECA of about $20b

i   incurring debt of about $30b

N114b from so called ''stabilization account in about 8 months.[/li]

We are not accusing him of stealing anything. He should just and explain, with facts and figures, what the above money, totaling close to N15trliion was used for, that's all.

Until then, how does he expect us to trust him with the purported savings of the fuel subsidy removal, which we all agree had to go?
