Ask a Nigerian what he thinks of his country and He will tell you that it is a failed nation where nothing good prevails. They are not far from the truth considering the rate of sectarian violence, ethnic conflict, poverty and corruption in the country.
Even the strongest nations today faced these situations at one period in time, e.g U.S.A, which faced series of civil wars and revolution.
The difference between these nations and Nigeria is that they formed their countries based on equality, where everyone has the same right, same opportunity and same voice. This is not the case in Nigeria where marginalization of one ethnic group by another is prevalent, where their is hatred and conflicts amongst ethnic group, where one feels He is superior to another.
Lord Luggard thought He was doing right by amalgamating different groups to form one nation, unfortunately that is not the case.
Even after the civil war that occured in 1967 due to ethnic differences, Nigerians have failed to give equality a chance. Until we discover that we are the same regardless of our ethnic or religious orientations, the country will continue to diminish and if nothing changes, then we might be worse off than the conditions in Somali.
