NO fewer than 6,000 illegal refineries across Niger Delta have been destroyed by the Joint Military Task Force.

The JTF spokesman, Lt. Col. Timothy Antigha, said this while handing over seven suspected oil thieves and five trucks to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Antigha, who claimed that the illegal refineries were discovered in 2011, added that over 150 persons suspected to be involved in bunkering were arrested by the JTF last year.

According to him, the task force also impounded four barges and five ships, adding that the suspects had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

Antigha said, “We are gathered here today in order to transfer seven suspected oil thieves to the civil defence corps.

“The suspects were arrested with five trucks loaded with illegally refined petroleum products at Water Lines in Port Harcourt and Oyigbo Local Government Area. They are among the criminals that have been selling substandard petroleum products.

“The product they sell is not up to the NNPC’s standard. We took samples of the product to the DPR and it was confirmed that the products were of poor quality.”

Antigha listed the suspects as Babayo Dauda, Mohammed Abdullahi, Bukar Alima, and Jeremah Umaru, Ali Salisu, Ibrahim Abdullahi and Ikechukwu Ukaegbu.

what is the situation of these 150 that were arrested last year. How many have been convicted and jailed?, or do they just make noise, speak to the press, collect bribe and release them?,

if they cant pursue their case to conclusion, they should stop telling us they arrested this, they arrested that,

let the same jtf come and destroy the illegal refinery at omorege street, opposite nnpc main gate, benin agbor road, benin city.Edo state.Police and military taskforce come there and collect their own share and allow them to continue their illegal acts.Residents of the area have complained bitterly of destruction of the road by heavy trucks coming to convey their products. What is annoying is that this act is commited few kms away from NNPC office.

This is good, they should be given GCON and other awards like how they gave their mentors : Dangote, Otedola and Iheneacho, Uba etal. However, forget the names colouration ehich is very deceptive, they are not necessarily Hausas, they are mainly son of the soil i.e. Niger Deltans i.e. the militants. How do you think our people will be allowed to steal oil legally from upstream and illegally from downstream. Za’a fah kashe mu kenan

It is a pity that things are getting bad and the government has failed to take advantage of ingenuity of this desperate ordinary Nigerians. Rather than arresting this young entrepreneurs, the Nigerian government should have partner with them to boost local content in the refining our abundant crude oil. Now we are forced to accept a demonic and untimely subsidy removal. Mr. GEJ should appreciate the talent, hidden in this needed illegality for now. It evident that, it is very possible for refineries to work in every part of Nigeria at a small scale basis, since large scale production has been sabotaged by the Devilish Cabals. Universities lectures, Engineers and Banks should support cottage Industries engaged in refining crude oil. Licences should be given to deserving entrepreneurs and legal frame work should be made flexible to allow small scale participation in crude oil exploration at the nook and crannies of Nigeria
