The nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards popularly known as the Oscars were announced today, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 and the Martin Scorsese’s 3D film ‘Hugo’ leads the list with 11 nominations.

The nominations were announced by actress Jennifer Lawrence and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President, Tom Sherak.

All eyes are on two of the top actresses from 2011’s review – Veteran Hollywood actress Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams lead the contenders for the Best Actress category for their fantastic roles as Margaret Thatcher and Marilyn Monroe in the movies Iron Lady and A Week With Marilyn respectively.
