Enyimba players head to Niger Republic for treatment
By Christian Okpara
TO ensure that its injured players receive proper medical attention, Enyimba Football Club of Aba has shipped four of its injured players to Niger Republic for 'adequate' treatment, an official of the club has said. The club took Uche Kalu, Andy Ogwuche, Saminou Rabo and one other player to the neighbouring francophone country because, according to the official, who pleaded for anonymity, "Niger Republic has advanced facilities for treating sports injuries."
Uche Kalu, who was the revelation of the last NFL Super Four League, and Ogwuche, the source said, have been in Niamey for close to two months, while Rabo and the other player left for the country just before the beginning of the season.
He revealed that Enyimba took the option of sending the players to Niger Republic after a futile search for a place to treat their injuries locally.
"Uche and Ogwuche have severe knee worries, while Rabo's case is a recurring shoulder injury," he said.
Rabo, who joined Enyimba last season, is a citizen of Niger Republic.
Another Enyimba star, Odey Ogar, who was involved in a motorcycle accident shortly before the Super four play-offs, the source said, has gone back to his village in Benue State to treat his injury the local way after trying orthodox tratment in Aba.
The defender sustained 'serious' injuries in the accident that occurred while he was holidaying in Makurdi.
Confirming the report, Enyimba's Media Officer, Tonnex Chukwu, said that the club wanted to ensure that the players were properly taken care off, adding that "reports from Niamey indicate that the boys will soon return to Nigeria."
