In the third round of matches, Group A rivals Equatorial Guinea and Zambia will go head-to-head in a battle that will determine which team finishes top of the Africa Cup of Nations pool.

Pre-tournament favourites Senegal have crashed out of the 2012 Afcon after a surprising 2-1 defeat to co-hosts Equatorial Guinea. The home side have progressed to the quarter-finals as a result of their two wins, also including an opening 1-0 victory over Libya. Zambia find themselves on four points in the group, with a 2-1 defeat of Senegal and a 2-2 draw with Libya making sure that they are looking good with one game to go.

Senegal are bottom of the group with zero points, while the Mediterranean Knights of Libya have a single point, and are the only threat to Zambia's progression to the quarter-finals, in the event that the north Africans win and the second-place side are beaten, goal difference would be used to decide their fate.

Both sides have their squads at full strength and the co-hosts, as well as the Chipolopolo, will be going into the encounter with the intention of having their best players fighting for the win.

Equatorial Guinea authorities have promised to lavish the national team with cash to boost motivation. The co-hosts are set to receive another financial reward if they are able to beat Zambia on their way to the quarter-final.
