AFCON: Super Eagles Suffer Major Blow As Chelle Confirms Nwabali Injury by dominique(mod): 8:21pm On Dec 29, 2025

Super Eagles have suffered a major blow after head coach, Eric Chelle, disclosed that first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has both knee and ankle injuries.

Chelle spoke to the media ahead of Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON final group stage fixture against Uganda on Tuesday.

The Malian, however, said he will decide which goalkeeper will be in goal for the Super Eagles against Uganda after his side’s final training session later on Monday

"We will manage for the team.”

Chelle’s men currently top Group C with six points and are through to the last-16 stage after beating Tunisia at the weekend.

I'm kind of curious that most other countries can produce 3 or more decent goalkeepers & we are struggling to even produce 1.

Even Cameroon our next door neighbour, I have seen over 3 different decent goalkeepers man their post in recent years.

Uzoho better maximise this opportunity. Na Maduka do himself not that I blame him, the coach couldn't guarantee him enough playing time so he chose club over country. Now he has picked up a straight red card and will be serving a 3 match ban which will end when AFCON ends, the same thing happened to Mohammed Kudus last AFCON.

Me too because the keeper is the weak link in the team. The keeper incompetence is partly why we are not going to the world cup. This blessings in disguise. I wish him recovery after the tournament grin

A very useless goalkeeper is injured cause for celebration at least those forcing him on the team can rest and allow us either test the other keepers and see how good or worst they are with this walkover match.

Eric Chelle wants to rotate players for the last match, that's why he gave that excuse for Nwabali. It's when we don't see him in the knock out matches we will know the injury is serious
