PDP Alive, Strong – Jonathan by ogododo(op): 9:53am On Jan 07
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains alive, strong, and resilient, despite the lingering internal divisions within the main opposition party.

Jonathan reaffirmed that the PDP remains a fundamental pillar of Nigeria’s democracy, noting that it is the only surviving original political party since 1998.

The former President stated this while receiving members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, led by the National Chairman, Dr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, during a high-level consultative meeting held at his private office in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on the party’s reconciliation process and strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Jonathan noted that the PDP possesses the historical resilience and institutional strength required to overcome its current internal challenges, describing the party as more than a political platform but a national institution.

“The PDP, being the only surviving original political party since 1998, has been a critical contributor to our democracy since 1999. I have been a beneficiary of this party, which gave me the opportunity to serve as Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, and President. I am grateful to the party and will continue to contribute my quota because I feel deeply indebted to it,” he said.

He urged the party’s leadership to place national interest and institutional development above personal considerations, stressing that strong political parties are essential for democratic stability.

Dr Turaki assured Jonathan that the current PDP leadership is committed to a comprehensive “Rebirth Agenda” aimed at rebuilding and strengthening the party.

On reconciliation, the PDP chairman said the party prefers dialogue over litigation but was compelled to defend itself in court after being sued by aggrieved members.

He maintained that the leadership remains committed to reuniting the party once the ongoing legal disputes are resolved.

The more the merrier. If Jonathan throws his hat in the ring and contests with a Kwankwaso as Vice, he will not only revive the PDP but Tinubu will come a distant third. The Southsouth will vote their son while the few Northern and middlebelt votes Tinubu may be banking on will swing to Jonathan. Tinubu will end up garnering votes from only half of the Southwest.

Jonathan the weakling asked his Ministers to resign if they wanted to contest in the next elections and join politics.

Tinubu the strongman cannot reign in his Ministers to resign if they want to face politics.

Life is wonderful. None of Obasanjo's Ministers dare play politics when he was the Boss. You don't need to go far to know who gives Wike the relevance. A president who is more interested in politics than governance.

Newsdesk
President Goodluck Jonathan officially instructed his ministers with political ambitions for the 2015 general elections to resign on October 15, 2014.
During a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on that date, he directed those planning to contest for elective offices to submit their resignation letters by October 20, 2014.

Key details regarding this event include:

The Valedictory Session: A valedictory session was held on October 15 for seven ministers who had indicated they would be leaving to pursue governorship bids.

The Ministers Involved: The seven ministers who resigned following this directive included Nyesom Wike (Education), Musiliu Obanikoro (Defence), Labaran Maku (Information), Samuel Ortom (Trade), Emeka Wogu (Labour), Onyebuchi Chukwu (Health), and Darius Ishaku (Niger Delta).

Reason for Resignation: The directive was issued to ensure that government officials did not use state resources or machinery to fund or influence their personal political campaigns for the upcoming 2015 elections.

Earlier in the same year, on February 12, 2014, President Jonathan had also accepted the resignations of four other ministers, some of whom were reportedly leaving to further their own political interests.

PDP killed itself when it worked with APC during Jonathan's time. The nPDP governors killed their party. Amaechi, Saraki and the rest of them.

PDP repeated the same script in 2023 when the G-5 governors formed alliance. One of them was Wike. Now Wike and Makinde who were both members are sharing receipts today. Wike has vowed to work for Tinubu's reelection. They told us Atiku was the problem but Atiku left and they still have problems. A house divided against itself....
Re: PDP Alive, Strong – Jonathan by doncartel: 11:18am On Jan 07
If Adc and Pdp both contest the election, then Apc is likely to win. That’s why Gej, Atiku and Obi should sit down together and choose one person among themselves that they will all support.

Or they just want a repeat of 2023.

Not correct. Tinubu quickly threw Ganduje under the bus to placate Kwankwaso and court him when talks about his alliance with Jonathan gained traction. That was the same period when the likes of Bayo Onanuga and even Bishop Kukah were throwing the kitchen and sink at Jonathan and posturing as his emergency special adviser. Jonathan being in the race can only upset Tinubu's plans unlike in 2023 because the North will no longer save his behind with 5.6m votes.
