House of Representatives has threatened to revoke the concession contract between Federal Government and Bi-Courtney, following the slow pace of work on the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Chief Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, member of the House of Representatives, issued the threat notice in Abuja during the 2011-2012 budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Works presented by Mike Onolememen, Minister of Works.

Ozombachi, who was irked by the pace of the work on that expressway said: “Nigerians should not be held to ransom by any legal issue. We are going to summon the contractor and the minister and find an exit strategy,” adding that the company has not demonstrated competence.

“If he is not doing that project, we will find money or Option B. That road is a gateway into this country and we can’t allow one man to hold us to ransom,” he added.

It is high time the project was terminated.  The concession contract was awarded almost three years ago (April 2009). That important expressway has expired and people continue to die and get maimed by accidents.  So many manhours are lost to avoidable snarls and potholes.

If you drive through that road, you won't believe that Nigeria has a President.

Every government contract should have a clause for penalties up to and including revocation. Many lives are daily being lost on this road and we are still discussing with the contractor. I don't like to say this, Julius Berger will do a better and speedier job than this Obasanjo protege and front. On what basis was the contract awarded to the Bi-Courtney construction company.

this is not the first time someone will be threatening about this project, they should either revoke or keep quiet, what is the essence of telling us the pace of work is slow like we can't see for ourselves,

if these guys get paid so much and all they can deliver is a threat years after the contractor have abandoned the site, then they should be placed on minimum wage.

@Pukkah

The road was concessioned during OBJ's time, it is over 5 years, and it will cost over 1.5billion naira per kilometer to build.

I don't know why Nigerians like displaying their ignorance on this forum. First of all it is a Design, build, operate and transfer contract which is contractor financed. The FG is not spending one kobo on the project rather they would be making money from it when completed. Secondly the engineering design for the road which w

As I wrote earlier, the concession contract was signed in 2009.

As you all know, award of any infrastructure project in Nigeria is not a matter of competence and track record. Rather it's all about who you know.

Bi-Courtney another OBJ favor.

Such a SAD country called NIGERIA !!

@Pukkah

I can almost swear that it was OBJ that gave them that contract, anyway, I must have mixed things up, with Yar Adua being comatose.
