The fault is not from your new neighbour. They've upgraded your Band level.

This has happened to me, so I can give you a succinct advice.

Seek the service of a good electrician to install card readers into every flat. This would help monitor unit usage in each flat. From there, you can do plus/minus of your monthly metre usage. Henceforth, everyone would pay for his/her consumption monthly accordingly.

Hello guys

Please I'm having electricity problem with our new neighbour and I'm confused with what to do right now.

Here's the issue:

So we live in a compound where 3 rooms are connected to one prepaid.

So 3 of us donate to fund our prepaid meter.

A few months ago we were paying 4k and this usually last us for 2+ months. The reason I believe is that all we had to power is ceiling fans and charging of our devices (phones and laptops)

But ever since we got our new neighbor, the light bill has suddenly increased.

This month alone, we've recharged 8k+ individually and by my calculations, it'll cost each of us 12k+ for light to reach us for one month.

This is a significant jump from the 4k that will normally cover us for 2+ months.

I'm really not happy about this and don't know what to do right now.

I can't imagine paying 12k+ a month just to power my ceiling fans and laptop.

I have spoken with her and she told me she's using only fridge with the light, which I don't quite understand, how much our bill has jumped so significantly.

Please any suggestions on what to do will be welcome.

You guys should install card reader ...for each person ...it calculates the amount of unit each person uses ..you multiply it with the cost per unit according to your band ...thst solves the problem

Fridges consume power like mad. Especially when it is operated 24 hours nonstop
are u guessing or u know the actual capacity of fridge? It is hotting devices, pumping machines and AIr conditioners that consume electricity

What if just a room decide to buy independently, will they be able to use what they load without interference with the main meter?
Inspirer1:
You should all get this for each flat, get a good electrician to connect it for you all, everyone will pay for what is used.

since they are 3 in number, it will be difficult to ascertain what the other two are using individually, unless he reaches an agreement with them that he will pay for the units he consumes as recorded by his own sub-meter, but I doubt the other two will agree to that, they may feel that the device is giving him reduced reading, so it's best they all get it.

The thing is the main meter will still be loaded normally, the connection now will be from the main meter to the different sub-meters,

Buy this. You people would recharge and allocate units to each person's. You consume what you pay for.

Re: How Do I Handle This Prepaid Meter Issue With My Neighbors? by HenryWilliams(m): 2:13pm On Feb 10
Y'all should buy a smart meter.
You can allocate power to individual flats and it automatically cuts when exhausted.
It's just like regular PPM.
I installed for 3 of my tenants.
Very simple with no wahala.
They even send me tokens, I load for them and screenshot their balance.
Smart meter is better than check meter (that one only reads power).

She's using hot plate and frizer plus other powerful equipment. She should be the one to pay more.

I don't get it, what appliances do you use? Working from home shouldn't consume electricity that much. I suggest you should cut down the use of heavy electrical appliances

How can 3 of you share one meter? I can't accept that. It's either I'll consume it more than you or you do.

If you are using AEDC, just know that you have been upgraded in December from your previous band to a higher band..

The useless people that did it did not notify anybody..

It's s criminal way of increasing tariff across board.. the light situation remains the same but bands have been upgraded..

Of course yes, the 3 sub-meters must be placed together at a place accessible and visible to them all.
Just that I'm busy now, I can design a template for him that they can use to record readings and payments.
Please do it when less busy and post it here. I am learning though not in that situation

we have been on band A ever since
It’s the fridge that she’s using. Nothing else. Running a fridge in Band A is a death sentence. And if she’s running it every hour, like I suspect she is, una don finish o. And yes, I’m talking from Band A experience
