~~~ Daily Spiritual Digest~~~ ________________________________ [07-03-2026] Focus: Remember the Beginning WORD FOR TODAY The strength of a marriage is often preserved by remembering how it began. When couples forget the humility, promises, and sacrifices of the beginning, dishonour and neglect can slowly enter the relationship! **************************************** Scriptural Reference "He said to them, ‘Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.'" — Matthew 19:8 (NKJV) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The beginning of most relationships is filled with joy, hope, and promise. It is a season marked by affection, honour, and deep commitment. Words are spoken carefully, sacrifices are made willingly, and each partner values the presence of the other. The heart is tender, expectations are hopeful, and the future is imagined with excitement. However, as time progresses, pressures of life, responsibilities, and external influences may challenge the harmony that once existed. Differences emerge, misunderstandings occur, and circumstances may create moments where separation seems easier than perseverance. At such times, wisdom requires returning to the foundation. Jesus reminded His listeners that many practices surrounding marriage were later accommodations to human hardness of heart, but God’s original design remained unchanged. In the beginning, marriage was not intended for separation but for unity. God Himself instituted it and supervised the joining, not the breaking. Most marriages start humbly. Couples invest time, emotions, and resources with joy and expectation. They make promises, celebrate together, and envision a shared future even before visible achievements appear. God sees those small beginnings and promises that though the beginning may be modest, the latter days can increase greatly (Job 8:7). As life progresses and blessings grow, there is a danger of forgetting those early sacrifices and commitments. When frustration rises or disagreements intensify, the temptation to disregard or dishonour the relationship can emerge. Yet the reminder remains: in the beginning it was not so. Remember the promises spoken at the beginning. Remember the sacrifices made. Remember the prayers offered and the joy shared. These memories protect the covenant from casual disregard. Marriage flourishes when both partners honour God’s instruction. The guidance given in Ephesians 5:22-27 calls for love, respect, sacrifice, and spiritual responsibility. When couples return continually to these principles, they protect the beauty and stability that God intended for the home. Therefore, whenever frustration or discouragement appears, pause and remember the beginning. Honour the covenant you entered, respect the partner God joined to you, and allow obedience to God’s word to guide every decision within the relationship. Questions for Meditation Do I still honour my marriage with the same commitment that existed in the beginning? Have pressures of life caused me to forget the promises once made? What practical steps can I take to preserve respect, honour, and love in my marriage? Lord, help me to honour the covenant of marriage according to Your original design. Guard my heart from hardness and teach me to remember the promises and humility of the beginning. Let Your wisdom guide every decision in my home. Amen. Main Emphasis: Remembering the beginning preserves honour, commitment, and faithfulness in marriage. May God strengthen your home, renew love and respect in your relationship, and establish your marriage according to His divine purpose, in Jesus’ name. Amen. |
