We’ve Prayed ‘nigeria In Distress’ For Years — Why Is Nothing Changing? by Nairaland111(op):
Happy Easter Nairalanders ✝️

Following the recent events in Plateau State, I’ve been reflecting deeply as a Catholic.

Every Mass, we say the “Prayer for Nigeria in Distress”:

“We present our country Nigeria before You… Lord, we are weighed down not only by uncertainties, but also by moral, economic and political problems… Spare this nation Nigeria from chaos, anarchy and doom.”

But here is my concern:

We have been saying this same prayer for years — even since I was a child. Yet today, Nigeria still faces the same (or even worse) moral, economic, and political crises we mention in that prayer.

So I ask sincerely:

Are we lacking prayers, or are we lacking action and good governance?

The prayer itself already acknowledges the real problems — leadership failure, insecurity, hardship. But beyond praying, what are we doing as citizens and as a Church to address them?

At what point do we move from only asking God to fix Nigeria, to also demanding accountability and taking responsibility ourselves?

This is not to say prayer is not important. It is.

But should prayer replace action?

Or should it inspire action?

Because if we keep repeating “Nigeria in distress” every Sunday without change, then we need to ask ourselves — what exactly is missing?

Is it more prayer… or more responsibility from both leaders and citizens?

What do you think?

Righteousness exalt a nation. The prayer of the righteous availeth much. We don't have much men like Moses, Elijah, etc... just some random religious folks who like to beat chest, boast and mostly money/materials driven.

Our problem is not a problem, WE are our own problem. When we are done killing ourselves and after everybody must have been dead, you will see how beautifully and wonderfully God created Nigeria.

Because prayers do not work

When you all are yet to change how will your prayer be answered?

USA told you they were the ones sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria and everywhere yet you still support them as Christians, some writing letters, some going there in person, etc.

There's always at least one village people chasing an average Christian! They are always running!
