What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by Caaz(op): 1:34pm On May 10
10days ago I sack planted 40 sacks of yam seedling on top a sewage pit....the job was very tedious and actually I fell under the weather.

Only for this my rose the nosy neighbor to corner me and asked me to take them of that the weight of the sands are going to sink the sewage pit.

I rejected her verdict.because it was recently plastered by me for this sole purpose.

She sad because she did same and hers collapsed .i told her that mine is entirely different.thanked her then walked away.

Interesting to chip in that...this same nosy neighbor has this penchant for finishing all my veggies for free.

I really want to know if the sewage is really going to collapse due to the fact that it's raining season.

It won't collapse but it's not advisable. If it eventually collapses, you will be the one to fix it anyway, so stick to your decision.

It was freshly cemented and given the fact that it's a 6 months duration crop.

Thanks for dropping by sir.

Let's talk about how healthy for consumption whatever it is you want to grow on sewage pit.

Sewage is the liquid waste produced by households, businesses, and institutions, consisting of over 99% water mixed with human excreta, food waste, soaps, and detergents.

Are there no other places you can move the sack to? You may have to consider that

Sir Your advice is neither here nor there...

Which one is it won't collapse then it's not advisable and went further if it eventually collapses shocked shocked shocked angry >: sounds like something someone would say when they are famzing and or telling someone what they want to hear. What of when it eventually collapses and hurts someone around it at the time?

Caaz those things aren't really designed for such weight most times and your neighbor is right it can actually cause the soak away to collapse. If you have other space you can move your precious crops.

It's not even advisable sometimes to walk on those sewage pits people walk around them and not on them most times!
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by Caaz(op): 2:51pm On May 10
Thank you brainny....I would reduce it then and move some of them to other available spaces ..

Is that a good idea? Something heavy that can weaken the structure if water drips.
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by shoodboi2: 5:59pm On May 10
It is common sense to not place something on a sewage pit. It can cause structural damage that can weaken the sewage and cause it to collapse, years after you've harvested your crops.

God forbid some little kid is on the sewage at the time it collapses, or strolls there after it has collapsed.

Not advisable. Change location please

A neighbour gave you advise that would be in your best interest and you say she's being nosey huh

From the pic you posted it's obvious the soak away is at the back of the house which likely means they did not anticipate that cars would drive over it which means it was probably not reinforced with iron rods of at least 16mm so as to be able to carry such weight
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by Bahamas95(m): 6:04pm On May 10
It's a total waste of time advising someone that has pride.......Rose the concerned neighbour for just jejely mind her business.

Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by EmmaLege: 6:05pm On May 10
Please relocate the crops, bro. That sewage pit has been deteriorating for years, and it is evident that the structure is already showing signs of weakness, even after the surface was plastered.
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by Naustine(m):
Even without being told, you should know that it could lead to collapse. Once the sand gets wet with water, it becomes heavier and could cause collapse. From.what I'm seeing..when those stuffs mixes with water, the weight could be around 20-30kg.. multiply it by the number there and see how much weight you have

Your neighbour is not being nosy. It will eventually collapse due to the weight of those sacks, pray the day it will collapse, you won't be ontop of it inspecting your yam
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by Soltix9y(m): 6:09pm On May 10
I hope you won't be the cause of death of someone. Of all the places, you decided to drop such weight on sewage pit that people are even advised against walking on. Na so yam cost and dey hungry you?
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by emmaBS(m): 6:10pm On May 10
Safety first!
What if it collapses and something terrible happens to someone as a result? You don collect name forever be that.
And what if you are the one injured and that makes you disabled forever?
I even do my best to avoid walking on those sewage pits and you are overloading them with sand that is known to be very heavy.

If it was casted with rods it will hold the weight. You have no worries.

Did you use reinforced concrete beams and columns for the soak away pit? Is the slab reinforced and the concrete top rich? If yes, don't fear, nothing will happen

People like una no dey hear word
Re: What My Neighbor said When she Saw These Crops I Sack Planted. by israelmao(m): 6:24pm On May 10
The problem here is,the present aggregated weight of those sacks filled with soil apart from crop weight will eventually increase as rain continues to fall and the inner structure that bears the slab or slab itself may be overburdened or overstressed.Again, rainwater may become stagnant on slab and gradually percolates through it resulting to its eventual collapse.

Time to put a hidden camera.

Your neighbour may harvest them before you.
