It’s bush meat. And comes from the bush, live in the bush and surrounding

SinisterFellow:
And what about the well known case whereby eating such makes the eater grow a tail and develop claws along with a craving to eat from trash cans and bite human legs. This has been happening everywhere and CANNOT be denied anymore.

Yesterday over twenty people were seen who had grown MASSIVE rat tails in oshodi from eating rats.
From the way you type you might soon bite someone. I wish some can keep an eye on you.

Mrchippychappy:
Throwing the word "bush" in front of a rat doesn't miraculously classify that rat as another animal. Rat na Rat.

Castle Rat
Jungle Rat
Church rat
Mosque rat
Even rat inside aso rock na still rat

You can't just eat rat and call it bush rabbit. One dey una go chop human being talk say na Bush monkey because una catch am inside bush
It is not. Because it doesn’t exist in your village doesn’t mean you call it what it’s not.
Its real name is okete. Okete is different from ekute, and ekute is different from asin.

You learn and not jump around ignorantly

If you dey chop rat just talk sey you dey chop rat.
I eat bush rat all the time when traveling. In the village I go into forest to hunt it with friends

Crocodile meat
Snake meat
Bush rot

You will never taste more delicious meat. Cow meat is tasteless compared to these

Most people laugh and scream until they actually taste or hear how expensive

Please stop spreading falsehood. Stick to topics you are knowledgeable about.

First off, bushmeat refers to any edible animal that is not domesticated - including the one in the post you quoted above. It must not necessarily be found in the bush.

For you to refer to the rat in the post you quoted as "gutter rat" shows that you don't know anything about the various rat species.

That rat is known as a giant pouched rat. There are many species of it such as the Gambian giant pouched rat, African giant pouched rat, East African Savannah giant pouched rat, etc,. They are all edible and in fact, some people keep them as pets.

In Igbo, it's called "ewi". Not "oke"!
The irony of his argument is that grass cutter is actually a specie of rat...

Or of the rat's family.

Such an ignorant fella. But he wouldn't take corrections!

A simple 2 seconds Google search would have educated you but you refused, all because of your love of eating Gutter rat as a delicacy.

You are struggling to cope with that fact that you have been eating Gutter rats your entire life.

Unlike you I'd admit and correct my mistake...

They are both of the rodent family. Which is what I meant to say. Not rat family.

Admit yours too... which is broader and really ignorant.

Doesn't make you any less of a man. If you aren't an ignorantly obstinate fellow you would have seen where I said I have never eaten it before!

I would admit when I make a mistake, however I haven't made one yet. The screenshot confirms what I wrote earlier on - Grasscutters eat Grass, Gutter rats eat ANYTHING!!! I have seen these exact rats eating some of the most disgusting things from the GUTTER!

I don't know why Nigerians are so hard headed and defiant. This is a HEALTH RISK!!!!

Oga our argument was about bush meat...

I never argued with you about what the animals eat or not.

Stop saying anything to win a useless argument. Not everyone is stupid now.

Some things are insulting to someone's intelligence.

For your information chickens, pigs, fish eat anything including disgusting stuff from the gutter too!
Re: Understanding The Difference Between Grasscutter And Rats by olowofariwo(m): 9:31pm On May 20
I disagree with op, the gutter rats also can be found in the bush, the first rat you posted is the biggest rat species in the bush, yoruba has different names for all of them
We called grasscutter "ÒYÀ" in yoruba, others are Òkété, Emó, Àgó, Asínrín

It's obvious you don't know the animal in question. Ewi is not Oke.

I ate it very well when I was younger. There's a huge difference between Ewi and rat. You can ask

Most of those city giant rats live
in soak aways, eating excrement 💩
& dead stuff...

Very unhygienic & deadly.

However, some unscrupulous, uneducated
people, desperate for meat will even
have the audacity to call those giant rats🐭 as 🐰 rabbit.. 😕😕😕

I saw a thread here https://www.nairaland.com/8673699/how-ended-sunday-bush-meat and I want to set the record straight on this matter.

In Igbo land, Grasscutter is what we refer to as Bushmeat (see first and second picture below), however some Nigerians don't seem to understand the difference between bushmeat and the typical gutter rat.

Please see the pictures below, Notice the rounded head, short ear and short mouth on the grasscutter? compare that to the long mouth, long tail, long and slender long body of the gutter rat (Third picture below)

The Grasscutter is herbivorous and can be found in the bushes and forest , while the Gutter rat eats anything and can be found in the gutter eating excrement, cockroaches, dirt. It is not fit for human consumption.

This habit of catching gutter rats, killing them and trying to pass them off as bushmeat is making Nigerians look bad, the average foreigner visiting Nairaland would assume that Nigerians eat rats.

Its not a good look
The 'grasscutter' is also a rat albeit a herbivorous one

It's a CANE RAT
Re: Understanding The Difference Between Grasscutter And Rats by Mirasteel: 1:16am On May 21
You are right, Grasscutter is the true bush meat.

The grasscutter is a rat the same way a seahorse is a horse.
