The Anambra State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, has received two 40-foot containers of medical equipment donated by MedShare in collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company under the Safe Birth Initiative (SBI).

The donation followed a pre-assessment exercise conducted in Anambra State several years ago to identify critical medical equipment and supplies needed to improve healthcare delivery across the state.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the capacity of health facilities to save the lives of women and children, while reducing birth-related complications.

The Coca-Cola Safe Birth Initiative is a maternal and neonatal healthcare programme designed to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in Nigeria.

The programme focuses on strengthening selected public hospitals through the provision of essential medical equipment, repair and maintenance of existing devices, as well as technical capacity building for healthcare workers and biomedical professionals.

As part of the initiative, MedShare’s Chief Biomedical Engineer recently concluded intensive training for technicians and biomedical engineers in the state, which centred on the repair and maintenance of medical equipment to ensure optimal functionality of both newly donated and existing devices in health facilities.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Ifeanaeme described the training as a critical component of the Safe Birth Initiative programme, noting that it would ensure maximum uptime of medical equipment and improve hospital operations and patient outcomes.

He explained that the hands-on training would equip participants with practical skills required for effective maintenance of medical equipment, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare service delivery in the state.

Among the 438 medical equipment and supplies contained in the donation are baby incubators, baby warmers, refrigerators, medical-grade refrigerators, electric beds with mattresses, oxygen concentrators, nebulizers, Ambu bags, baby positioners, adult wheelchairs, and X-ray Kodak screens, among others.

Dr. Ifeanaeme disclosed that installation of the donated medical equipment would commence soon across designated health facilities in the state.
