**The Biggest Lie About BSF Farming Is Costing Farmers Thousands**

Let me say something that might upset a few people.

**BSF farming is not automatically cheap just because the larvae eat organic waste.**

There.

I said it.

I've seen people hear:

"BSF larvae can eat market waste."

And immediately their brain says:

**"Ah! So everything is free!"**

My brother, calm down first.

The insect may eat waste, but **running a business is never completely free.**

There is a big difference between:

**"The larvae can eat waste."**

and

**"Therefore, BSF farming costs nothing."**

Those two statements are not the same.

And I think this misunderstanding can cost a beginner plenty of money.

Imagine somebody hears that BSF farming is cheap.

They rush to start.

They buy eggs.

They get containers.

They build a small facility.

They spend money on equipment.

They spend time collecting and preparing feed.

They deal with electricity, transport, water, labour and other expenses.

Then reality arrives.

The person looks at everything they've spent and says:

**"Wait... I thought BSF farming was almost free?"**

That's when the beautiful dream starts meeting real business.

There is a Yoruba saying:

**"Tí a bá ń jókòó, a ń rò; tí a bá ń rìn, a ń rí."**

In simple English:

**When you sit down and think, you see things more clearly as you move forward.**

That's how I look at BSF farming.

Don't just hear:

**"BSF can reduce feed costs."**

Ask:

**"Reduce them by how much in MY situation?"**

Don't hear:

**"BSF can be produced from organic waste."**

Ask:

**"How much will it cost me to collect, transport and prepare that waste?"**

Don't hear:

**"There is money in BSF."**

Ask:

**"Where exactly will my money come from?"**

Those questions are not meant to discourage you.

They're meant to protect you.

Because sometimes the most expensive mistake in farming isn't losing money.

It's **believing something is free when it isn't.**

And here's the part I really want people to understand.

I'm not saying BSF farming is a bad business.

Far from it.

**I think the opportunity is interesting.**

But if you want to build a serious business from it, you have to stop thinking like someone looking for a shortcut.

Start thinking like a business owner.

If you spend ₦10,000 to produce something you sell for ₦12,000, you haven't suddenly become rich because you made a ₦2,000 difference.

You still have to consider everything else that went into producing it.

That's where many exciting business ideas become very ordinary when you put the numbers on paper.

And honestly?

**That's a good thing.**

Because a business that survives real numbers is much better than a business that only looks profitable on Facebook.

So the next time somebody tells you:

**"BSF farming is cheap! You can start with almost nothing!"**

Don't argue with them.

Just smile and ask:

### **"Cheap compared with what?"**

Now we're having a real business conversation.

### **Let me hear your honest opinion.**

Do you think people **overhype how cheap BSF farming is**, or do you believe BSF can genuinely be a low-cost farming business when managed properly?

And if you've already tried BSF farming:

**What was the expense that surprised you the most?**

Was it equipment?

Transport?

Labour?

Waste collection?

Feed preparation?

Or something completely different?

**Tell me in the comments.**

Your answer might save another farmer from making an expensive mistake.
