However, rather than derail this thread and make the seller look bad to potential buyers, you should also see things from the perspective of the seller. Obviously, the subject is very catchy "Very Rare 2004 RAV4***5-speed***" and I believe that is the purpose of the seller to attract alot of traffic and potential customers. Besides, anybody can see clearly its a manual transmission. But your argument is destroying that purpose and it will be best if you edited your posts or the moderators simply delete it, including mine. |

kuntash: Remember that trucking, shipping and clearing alone will gulp about N600,000. So you do the math. Look around for a 2004 R4 with clean title and report back here with what you find the average prices to be. |

Bros, as I have always pointed out in your posts lately, I have followed your post religiously, since I joined nairaland, your style and sincerity (@ least by the way you lay adverts down yakata!) trips me, thus whenever I see a post from you I always read. perhaps thinking of doing biz with you even if its not to buy a car, (I could recall some Engine parts u once advertised, same with Honda transmission fluid and many stuff as such) However, in recent times, your prices seem way off the roof, at least from my perspective, No doubt, its possible many other dealers could be involved in shady acts, but u sure would agree not all of them, I would suggest you stand in here more competitive than ever. happy sales though! |

[b] kuntash: Thanks for your reply. Ever, since i joined this forum, i have always speak my mind. Even if its unpopular. Cos you never know who is reading. Back to this post in particular, it costs N300k to clear a R4. At least to clear properly that no custom will bother you. Add roughly about $1,200 (N192k) to ship you are around N500k. Remember that you have to truck from whatever location you buy the car to the port. Budget anywhere in the neighborhood of $500 to truck. Of course, depending on the distance. It could be more or it could be less. And when you clear something like this thru Lagos port, try and reserve about N20k aside just in case. They might steal the power window switch, the control knobs, alloy wheel cover etc. You never know. You cannot deliver missing anything. Trust me i know. One thing about R4 is that they are very popular and desirable. They tend to go high miles and still retain a good shape. That's where people get "creative". A R4 with 200k miles can be rolled back to under 100k. Most things that's common is to try and sell a 2002/2003 as a 2004. The fog light on the 2002/2003 is rectangular/squire in shape while the 2004/2005 is round. The rear light on the 2004/2005 is kinda darker that the 2002/2003. If you don't know all these things, its easy for anyone to pass a 2002 as a 2004. Another thing, lots of these R4 come from the UK and hence converted. Converted ones are cheaper. If you don't know what to look for, you can fall victim. And lastly, make sure its truly Lagos cleared. Then you know what i am talking about. Petrol is getting expensive here in the US and hence contributing to higher prices of these vehicles. Look around the net and see what you come back with in the price range of these cars. But anyone not in the know might think we are being dodgy. But like we've always warned, be sure u are not sold a crashed car in the name of cheap cars. It is pertinent you know these things hence i will just state a few. Clearing Cost = Ask any agent in the house and he will tell you clearing has added about 30-70 depending on the terminal your unit is dropping in. I will give u an instance. I cleared a 2006 Accord Kunle-A got for me last November for N280k shipped thru Grimaldi. The same unit which should be cheaper as we are in a newer year i can only clear at 320k . I cleared a 2006 Toyota Corolla shipped thru Hoegh just before the fuel subsidy strike for N310k. But i am given a bill of almost N400k for a 2006 Toyota Avalon thru the same shipping line. This is just one of a few situationsTax Holiday: We've always said it, if you want to get cars cheap, shop between October and December of any year. Cold weather and heavy taxes make people spend less and not willing to buy as much. But with the tax holiday already on, a lot of disposable income are on the fly. U do see crazy prices for cars. High Gasoline prices has also made small engine units become pricey and in more demand. But i am glad we seem to be gaining on the forex side. As at the december era, U$D was going for 165 but at least it's dropped to 160 as at yesterday and i hope it goes further down today. Hence i always advice people to research before hitting the road.
