Obasanjo, W/bank Adopt Delta For Food Security Scheme by supereagle(m): 5:33am On Mar 06, 2012
Delta State is to pilot the Feed Africa Programme, FAP, as former President Olusegun Obasanjo launched the scheme to battle malnutrition and ensure food security in the African continent.

Speaking at the launch of FAP, yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo said Delta State would host the pilot scheme given the state’s pedigree in agriculture.

He commended the Delta State Government for identifying with the Obasanjo Farms in developing its agricultural sector.

He also congratulated Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on last week’s Supreme Court judgment which upheld his election victory.

Vice President (Africa) of the World Bank, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, who spoke at the event, noted that inadequate investment on irrigation was partly affecting food production in sub Saharan Africa.

Uduaghan, in his reaction, expressed delight at the choice of the state for the pilot scheme of FAP.

Speaking during the launch of the programme, which was part of activities to mark Obasanjo’s 75th birthday, Uduaghan said “agriculture remained a challenge to every government.”
