Reading all the comments,I laugh and cry for my people. Obviously humility is not a popular or respected trait in Nigeria. For the Christians, remember that humility was a major teaching subject for Jesus Christ. Translation? It is very Christ-like and Christian to be humble. 2 Likes |

Good for him. If he tries that here in Naija, no one would tell him to buy armored SUVs and employ personal guards after he has been kidnapped severally and paid more than half of his worth in ransom. 2 Likes |

If he rides his bike to work then he has an attachment to that bike. Buying expensive cars doesnt necessary mean show off, has to do with the things you are passionate about. I wont be surprise if this guy has the most expensive watch collection. 1 Like |

Usually they worked really hard for their money, and nothing was handed to them. They are mostly business people. 1 Like |

Because of humility one should not reward themselves with a nice car if they've worked hard for their money? Abeggi! |

That is a big problem with the Black Race. Yet we wonder how we can ever make progress as a race. Look at Black American Music Videos. Its all about showing off Cars, Houses, Bling Blings and Chilling. Have a look at Black Sports personalities, it is still the same thing. Look at Black Preachers in the states or in UK or at home in Africa. It is about Private Jets, Cars and properties. Its almost like We are a cursed race. If all these sports stars who are paid millions of dollars in salary are rich. What do you think of the ownwers of the clubs they play for? There are wealthy folks but you dont hear of them. I think it is just a show of inferiority complex. If you really have serious money and are EDUCATED like the Bill Gates and Warren Buffets of these world, You would never be affected by what you drive instead they are more interested in what drives them. I have seen Stinkingly wealthy Indians live very Pious lives. They still shop with the commoners and drive normal cars, eat normal healthy food. Recently Charlie Morgan(A ballboy at swansea) who was involved in a controversy in a Swansea vs Chelsea match was discovered to be the son of a millionaire and an heir to 42 miilion pounds and I wondered if a black Millionaire would allow his son to be a ball boy. Our problems as a race has more to do with Our values and Orientation than anything else I think the biggist Problem in our Society is that there is no difference between how an educated black man thinks and how an uneducated blackman thinks. 5 Likes |

Mad Cow:It seems you didnt comprehend my statement properly. I said frankly, I might not come down to such level. The reason I used that term is sorely because of the fact that, sometimes it is easier said than done. You know this is the reality. Also, you failed to take cognizance of the word MIGHT!!! Is that too hard to understand |

I parked my car one day and rode my bicycle to church. A brother saw me and said, "God forbid! bicycle is not your portion" I thought, " ", what's wrong with cycling? We do it frequently over here to keep fit or if it's a short commute |

This seems humble enough for someone worth $3.5 Billion....If you've worked hard for your money, its o.k to take time out to enjoy it. Reward yourself and get back to work.

dmcdad: You still havent realized the errors of your comment. Oya, grab a textbook.. Todays Lesson: 'Condesending'. condescending Use in a sentence con·de·scend·ing/ˌkɒndəˈsɛndɪŋ/ Spelled [kon-duh-sen-ding] adjective showing or implying a usually patronizing descent from dignity or superiority: Example: They resented the older neighbors' condescending cordiality. Related forms con·de·scend·ing·ly, adverb non·con·de·scend·ing, adjective non·con·de·scend·ing·ly, adverb non·con·de·scend·ing·ness, noun un·con·de·scend·ing, adjective un·con·de·scend·ing·ly, adverb Synonyms patronizing, disdainful, supercilious. con·de·scend/ˌkɒndəˈsɛnd/ Show Spelled [kon-duh-send] verb (used without object) 1. to behave as if one is conscious of descending from a superior position, rank, or dignity. 2. to stoop or deign to do something: He would not condescend to misrepresent the facts. 3. to put aside one's dignity or superiority voluntarily and assume equality with one regarded as inferior: He condescended to their intellectual level in order to be understood. 4. Obsolete . a. to yield. b. to assent. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- condescend (ˌkɒndɪˈsɛnd) — vb 1. to act graciously towards another or others regarded as being on a lower level; behave patronizingly 2. to do something that one regards as below one's dignity condescending (ˌkɒndɪˈsɛndɪŋ) — adj showing or implying condescension by stooping to the level of one's inferiors, esp in a patronizing way Anyhow you look at it, it means Inferior.. So I ask you; Are you implying that him riding a bike is condesending of his wealth status?! If yes, what car would be fitting of his status.. |

Have u not seen blacks that are also modest and can do similar to what the guy has also done Please if he feels its best to ride his bike that's his cup of tea, do u expect dangote or mike adenuga to ride a bike to work?, so because dangote doesn't ride a bike to work he's also cursed abi remember he has what ur entire genearation can neva acheive. I'm tempted to write more but for someone with your level of reasoning that jumps at every chance to say something bad about the black race or nigeria your not worth yhe stress. Mtchew!!!!!!!!! |

@ kbdrim: I beg to differ on your last statement Every human's decision, lifestyle and to some extent character is largely influenced on what goes on in his immediate environs. Why do most rich ( not wealthy) naija's who acts like gods in Nigeria behave normal abroad? I wouldn't necessarily blame people here in naija but I do agree that materialism and show off is too unhealthy and needs a serious check.Naija's need to stop this " i better pass my neighbor mentality" The day you start living for yourself not to impress others, make decisions which makes you happy not really on how you would be perceived by others, live your life owing no one but God with gratitude for life, parent and true friendship. That is when you start to really experience the joy of being a human. Of growing to a level of complete maturity. If on a particular day I feel like jumping on a bus or getting on keke marwa who gives a toss about what others would feel or say seeing me in one? I don't need your approval to live my life! I focus on increasing my moral value by being an honest and sincere individual.I don't need to acquire a jeep cos of some FAKE friends...then suffer to pay insurance or maintain the car! He feels comfortable with a bicycle. His gf am sure can't be bothered either. There is nothing wrong with riding one and its sheer naivety to say such worthy exercise is condescending! if that is what he feels happy with, how does that affect anyone?. It's people like him we need in this world. People who controls money and not allow money control them and even own their life, their happiness and their future. Such people are men of integrity who will never be influenced by greed and selfishness that we see all around in this evil world. Its true that only those who have an inferiority complex would want to show off their obscene amount of wealth in a lacklustre acquisition of things that are irrelevant ( an exception to this is allowed only for the royals and important dignitaries whose life is at stake) my 2 cents.. naijas should start being wealthy not being rich. 1 Like |
