Umuahia—CHIEF of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Paul Dike, said yesterday in Umuahia that the War Museum in the Abia State capital would be improved upon to make it an ideal tourist centre.

The Air Force chief who was on assessment tour of the museum complex with top officials of the Nigeria Air Force, expressed delight at what they saw on ground, adding that it reminded one on the events of the last civil war.

“This is a place of history that must be preserved, at least for posterity sake. The place is not as bad as we were made to believe, but I still think that there is a lot more to be done here to make it much better,” he told reporters.

Some of the equipment inspected by Marshal Dike include different types of war planes, military equipment of various types, including those manufactured by the defunct Biafran soldiers, assault boats and other war relics.

Earlier during a courtesy call on the state deputy governor, Comrade Chris Akomas, at the Government House, Marshal Dike had explained that the visit would help to educate the young crop of officers.
The deputy governor said there is need for every Nigerian to visit the War Museum to see things for themselves so that they would not be tempted to repeat the mistakes of the past that led to the unfortunate civil war.

According to him, what is displayed at the War Museum is an indication that the country could achieve greatness with what is available to her, adding that the state government was prepared to join hands with the military in developing things that Nigerians would be proud of.

That will be nice at least to show those that were not born then what happened and what we produced in a war situation and that we Nigerians can do more under normal situation if our Govt will encourage us.

I visited the war museum on a school field trip years ago and it was amazing. it was in a state of disrepair and neglect but none the less amazing. it would really be nice to have it updated/maintained.
