No time to debate or speculate at which 'causes of the problem' are mutually exclusive. . . when many are self affirming.

I have been stating on here since summer that Jose is in neurotic mood due to transfer policy (including and most importantly, midfield strengthening) denied him at board level which is making him vent on the players and everyone around him. I highlighted this tension in his demeanor right from his preseason press conferences. First game of the season, gbam he lashed out at Eva.

That said, 3 weeks ago we said the players may have turned against Jose. Lets watch the next few games to see if they are putting in the effort, and we all agreed that the effort is there (with the possible exception of Hazard). You can attest from the last 4 games that everybody is putting in a shift. What is not there is the competence, of which midfield is the most fatal.

Never mind Benteke having space when Chelsea are chasing the game.

When Ramires showed Coutinho his number, that is a midfield problem.

When Lallana ran 30 yards untracked by Fabregas for the 2nd goal, that is a midfield problem.

That is how the game was lost, never mind the gung ho conditions under which Benteke scored.

When a team is in trouble, journalists will go fishing from any player carrying a grudge to discredit the manager. Never mind substitute material and nonentities like Oscar who we know has a long standing resentment with the manager. If 11 players join today and say we will give our best as they all proclaimed and seem to be doing, only structural weakness will see them defeated. Every squad has 4 or 5 players who dont like the manager because they are not playing. What next? Van Gaal under pressure because Victor Valdes, Javier Hernandez and Van Persie are carrying grudges?

The midfield problem is a self affirming problem that perpetuates instability and lack of confidence, plus more pressure on the manager and more journalists fishing for stories from useless substitutes. Any team in trouble always pack the midfield for a few games with physically robust players, take a few 0-0s and 1-0s and ride out the storm. Sir Alex Ferguson always locked down with 3 in midfield whenever the team was going through a bad patch. Every single big team does the same when going through a bad patch or facing superior opposition, including Arsene Wenger. Chelsea have no midfield to lockdown. That is what we've been attempting the last 4 games but the personnel are incompetent.

At this stage the players could do with a change to kill all the noise and the whole charade. However any subsequent managers will fail to achieve consistency without overhauling that midfield. No players hated RDM except Torres yet that midfield got him the sack because they could not keep a clean sheet or defensive stability. Benitez never achieved consistency with that midfield and lost an unacceptable amount of games due to midfield weakness and conceding too much. He only got that team more stable toward season end by putting David Luiz there. That midfield will not give any manager justice and will get any manager the sack eventually.
