There is nothing about working the system. I asked a question: if the ball deflected off TAAs hands and got into the Liverpool post would the ref have cancelled the goal?

Some do and some don't. Smart refs use their discretion and know the difference that is why they said CAN and not will for exceptional cases like this where Sterling was trying to be smart
