The Federal Government has approved the establishment of three Almajiri schools in Oyo State.
The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, made this known in Ibadan on Friday during a courtesy call on Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Wike, who was in the state to assess the progress of work at the construction site of the schools, said the one in Oyo town would be ready in May.
He, however, said the contractor handling the school building in Ibadan had been ordered to leave the site because of the poor quality of work.
The minister said the construction of such schools across the federation was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign promise to make education accessible to all children.
He also said the N1.09 billion Universal Basic Education fund allocated to the state in 2011 and 2012 had not been accessed, adding that this would be deployed to boost the education sector.
Responding, Ajimobi said his administration was determined to access the UBE fund before the end of April.
The governor, who commended the minister for approving the Almajiri schools in the state, urged the federal government to increase the number to five in order to cater for the many nomads in the rural areas of Oyo North.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the minister was accompanied on the visit by senior officials of the Universal Basic Education Commission.

It is now confirmed that the SW is as good as the North in the almajiri business.

Awo must be mad as hell in his grave to see his people turned into beggars and scroungers in their own land.

This president does not seem to have any plans to improve education in Nigeria. What does taking us back 100s of years help with? So because a couple of terrorists want this, we now invest in them? Even in Saudi Arabia, you do not have this scourge.

Yeah! Blame the president. What blame do you have for the failed SW governors, families who have abandoned their kids, and the urchins themselves who see nothing else to do than almajirism, toutism and agberoism even after growing up?

I don't know why this thread is funny to me.

Anyway, why is it that the FG is using FF to build schools in some parts of Nigeria? Isn't school building part of the governors job? What are the politicians in Nigeria doing with all the money giving to them. Shame cry

Ibo governor to build Alamjiri school in South East

The Ebonyi School for Almajiri

The recent announcement by the Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Martin Elechi, that his government would establish a school for the Almajiri has been receiving negative responses from both within and outside the state. Critics of the plan argue that establishing such a special school for Almajiri is the least of Ebonyi state’s problems and that Governor Elechi will do better to invest the funds he had set aside for the project to other pressing and urgent needs of the state.

Beware of Boko Haram, Bishop warns South East governor planning to build Almajiri school

Decries Ebonyi governor's plan to build an Almajiri school in the state As the Ebonyi State government proposed to establish schools for Almajiris in the state, the governor has been warned to be aware and alert, so as not to put the state
in great danger of breeding Boko Haram and the likes of Osama Bin Laden. The warning was issued by Bishop of Afikpo Dioceses Anglican Communion Rt. Rev.
Paul Udogu went he presented his presidential address during the Diocese’s second
synod at St Paul Anglican church, Afikpo.

He described the intention of the state government as a dangerous move to the socio-political, economic and cultural existence of Ebonyi state and a subtle move to Islamise the state,
adding that he would not want to believe that the state government was ignorant of the dangers associated with the proposed action.

We need to improve education, not drag it back 100s of years with Almajiri nonsense which even many in the north admit does not help issues. Why are we wasting good money that could go to improving our schools on this?

The ebonyi almajiri school is a school for northern almajiris residing in Ebonyi
This is different than the school being built by the fed govt in Oyo and hopefully in Osun, Lagos and Ogun which is for indigenes

If yo doubt me, show me a post where almajiris in Ebonyi are known to be Ebonyi indigenes

This one here shows clearly that the almajiris in Yorubaland are Yorubas

In any case, the Ebonyi project has been sent to the gallows.

Is the party on? Stop braying like a demented donkey.

I worked with one Alhaji(name withheld) from Ebonyi state a, full blown Ibo-islam convertee with four of his male children in saudi arabia, after successfully graduating from one of the almajiri schools in afikpo. What I find amusing here is, you fools don't even know the map of Ibo land. Afipko is a popular town hosting federal poly, with extreme poverty level. One thing you won't lack in that state is punnie at low low price. Take time out of your Onitsha-under bridge spare store or the one at Ayirayira-Aba market to enlighten yourself. Fool.

TRAGEDY struck yesterday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, when a 20 -year old
commercial motor-bike operator popularly known as Okada, Mr. Onuigbo Nwode,
hanged himself for losing his motorcycle to armed bandits
. Nwode, who hailed from Ezza, in Ebonyi State, relocated to Awka about three years ago and had been using income generated from the business to cater for his family members back home.

It was gathered that the motorcycle was stolen from him at gun point along Zik Avenue at about 1 am yesterday and apparently devastated by the incident, Nwode hung himself one a half hours later. The body of the deceased have since been removed by the police from his Ichida Road residence at Umudioka, Awka, and deposited in a mortuary.

I have been to Afikpo and that place is just like any other town we have in Nigeria.
You have the urban town and the semi-rural Afikpo
Kindly prove to me how the poverty level in Afikpo is extreme.

Those Igbos can be from anywhere from any of the Igbo speaking states.

I have been to Afikpo and I know what poverty and extreme poverty is.

Afikpo is a historical town and also a host of a Federal polytechnic.
