Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign German international midfielder Marko Marin this summer.

Marin, a 23-year-old who has been valued at around £10m, will join from Werder Bremen, where he has spent the past three seasons.

Marin underwent a medical in London this week and will join the club at the end of the season.

Reports in Germany also suggested Bremen want to take Chelsea's 18-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku on loan next season as part of the deal, though Chelsea have not confirmed that is the case.

Chelsea, who are currently under the charge of interim manager Roberto di Matteo, do not always consult their managers about signings.

Their last buy, Genk's Kevin de Bruyne, joined in January but the signing had nothing to do with the club's then-manager Andre Villas Boas.

But Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich intends to offer total control over transfer policy to Pep Guardiola in a bid to persuade the former Barcelona manager take charge at Stamford Bridge.

A statement on the Chelsea website confirmed the deal had been struck.

"Chelsea Football Club have today (Saturday) agreed to sign Marko Marin from Werder Bremen," it read.

"Both clubs have agreed a fee and the 23-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms.

"Marin, a German international, will join Chelsea in the summer."
