i thought it right to educate many people on this forum about the subject of "poverty" which has become a topic many use as platform to attack churches and pastors.

Act 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
Act 3:2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Act 3:3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
Act 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
Act 3:5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Act 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Act 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Act 3:8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.


from the verses above, its very clear that what Jesus brought was that you can rule and reign in life without a penny in your pocket but with the Word richly soaked in your spirit.
money is a spirit and it must not rule the child of God cos the only spirit allowed to rule him is the Holy Spirit. Jesus' death and resurrection has abolished poverty and given us reign over all circumstances.

2Cor. 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

any child of God that puts his hope on amassing wealth has failed already cos that fellow is not exhibiting his faith in the Word of God.

its very clear having read many comments on this subject that so many posters live in the old testament rather than the new testament Jesus established. please snap out of the OT life and wake up to a new dawn in the NT.

poverty has been dealt with so stop romancing it and magnifying it rather live richly by the Word.

what Jesus brought was total deletion of poverty, ridding it of its power on the church. Jesus equally took care of spiritual poverty as well as physical poverty cos the spiritual rules the physical.

i detest poverty cos its a curse that Jesus removed from us so why are we magnifying it.
the verse you quoted in isolation was the parable narrated to teach us that amassing wealth is totally wrong rather giving for kingdom purpose makes you rich toward God.

in prov. 13:7 is a corroboration of 2Co 6:10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things..
the reason for my post is to promote this mentality among all that God has given us the edge above poverty through the ministry of His Word. furthermore, Jesus taught us that our total trust should be in His Word and not in what we possess 1Tim. 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

poverty is not what we struggle with cos it has been defeated on the cross.

Great story. A man receives physical healing instead of money...

No way, this has nothing to do with those verses. The story has to do with healing, not ruling and reigning in life, not even about poverty.. Paul didn't have money on him (that doesn't mean Paul was poor or penniless). He simply chose to heal the man.

Money is any object or record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services.. (wikipedia)..
It doesn't have to be paper, it could be gold.. but as long as people have agreed to use 'it' as a means of payment, it becomes money....
How then can you say money is a spirit? If you say it's a spirit, is it a good or evil one?

Instead of picking up a verse from that chapter, why don't we explore the chapter, especially the opening verses...

2 Cor. 8
And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. 5 And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. 6 So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. 7 But since you excel in everything —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you[a]—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

It's quite clear from these verses, that Paul wasn't bothered about how much people were willing to give, he was emphasizing on the attitude in which they gave.. earnestly and happily... This of course was mirrored in Jesus' parable of the widow's mite

Mark 12
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

How could you say peter chose to heal the man when he actually said he did not have money on him? What peter did was as a result of realizing the transformation he had after receiving the holy spirit. You cannot be full of the spirit and permit poverty to rule you.

Your problem is that your mind set about being rich is tied to the manner ordinary man sees it.
Let me help you out here: being rich according to the Word is being filled by the Word and the Spirit. If you are filled this way you can never be ruled by poverty cos it has been abolished.

Until you change this wrong perception about poverty, the poor you will always have in your midst. I do not welcome poverty and I detest every form of it any where I find myself.

Poverty incapacitates you and render you helpless and vulnerable to wrong thoughts which will obviously lead to wrong actions.
Being rich according to the Word endows you, makes you see possibilities every time and gives you mastery over everything in life; you become unstoppable and overcomer always.

Pastor chris peter didn't have any cash to give that guy..

All he had was d power in him to cure d lame man.....

The apostles could be refered to people who had little materially,but they were were wealthy spiritual...

Something the so called men of God lack today...

Because of d so much wealth theyv aquired they find it hard to preach d word of God as both Jesus,d apostles and early christians did.....

They now attach security personnels to themselves with guns to protect them....

How I detest prosperity preachers...

what are you talking about? the guy did not ask for healing but he got healing because peter knew something unusual happened to him on the pentecost day; he was filled with the holy ghost who made him super-extraordinary; that was the transformation and he did it without Jesus being around them. its true that wasn't the first time peter healed someone but that was the first time peter healed someone that asked him for money cos he received the extraordinary strategist.

bunch of cheats and liars. how can some of you agree to poverty while you work your asses up looking for pepper. some of these people excusing poverty are not even in 9ja, why? they ran off in search of dollars, yeye liars.

@ OP; like your post but am bummed at the spate and spread of poverty in a world where there is so much to share and go round.

as for those of you that think poverty should be entertained, i think you are all nuts and should be sacrificed to the god of ogun for nothing!

if its true poverty has been abolished according to this piece, i think its worth accepting it and i believe it can make the world better than what it is today.
