The National Chairman of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, on Monday told President Goodluck Jonathan that the comment made by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi (rtd) may be the truth afterall.

Azazi last Friday said the Peoples Democratic Party should be held liable for the insecurity in the country.

Onu, who led a high-powered delegation of the ANPP on condolence visit to the management of the THISDAY newspapers, expressed sympathy with the organisation as well as the families of staff that lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

The ANPP boss, who described the attack on Newspaper houses by the Boko Haram sect as barbaric said: “The National Security Adviser (NSA) coordinates the country’s security efforts and when he talks he ought to be taken seriously by the president and all Nigerians.

“He is privy to information that may not be available to other officers of government.

“Whenever the National Security Adviser speaks on any matter relating to security we of the ANPP will take it very seriously and I believe that all other Nigerians do same.”

He urged security agencies to do a lot more on intelligent gathering to further help tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.

Received at the scene of the incident by ThisDay’s Editor of Nations Capital, Mr. Nduka Nwosu, Onu said the current state of affairs in the country called for sober reflection and a deep thought about “how to pull the country out of the ugly situation we have found ourselves.”

He described ThisDay newspaper as a very influential medium not just in Nigeria but in many parts of Africa and beyond.

His words: “We have come to encourage you to continue what you have been doing to promote unity, progress and peace of the country. We are proud of the good work ThisDay has been doing and we feel very worried that the insecurity in the country is now threatening peace of our nation.

“ We need to develop; we need peace for democracy to even take root. Without peace Nigeria cannot occupy her rightful place in the committee of nations, “the ANPP chairman added.
