I believe the popular notion that There was a gang up against Yekini by the 1994 squad is false. My reasons? If you noticed after he scored the goal he scored against Bulgaria in our first match, three members of the team came to congratulate him. Also hear what his former team mate Mutiu Adepoju had to say

There is also the need to correct the misconception that there was a gang up against him. “No! There was nothing like such because what happen was that most times at the 1998 Word Cup in France, he was at the twilight of his career and as such, was often on the bench. Outside this, everybody was happy with the situation and no more no less.”
